I would argue that WoWs community is also a lot less tame than ours but oh well. I still don't think adding one could hurt if it's set to off by default. If SE could do it right it would be more convenient. If you didn't want to hear people talking all you would have to do is turn it off.
As far as the argument that voice chat would then be required a lot of people already require 3rd party voice chat for their raids and trials so I don't see a difference except that it would be easier access to everyone instead of having to download third party.
I guess I'm just a bit miffed because everyone seems convinced that it would be used to harass people and troll while being harder to enforce the ToS in and it all just reeks of "because People suck this is why we can't have nice things."
And that worked for other mmo's like WoW's so well.
Actually, did you know WoW even had a voice chat? It's so horrible that it's a sin to even mention the existence of it on that game. And even looking outside MMO section here, have you seen how voice chat can go? In Overwatch I was in the PvE event and have had people blow their head off at me over a single number. Repeat, that's not pvp. That's in their Uprising event, which is pve.
And as just an added note, are you telling me you're going to go into a voice chat with 3 random people in your expert roulette? Because I'm doubting it. And if it's in PF, people who weren't going to join your discord or vent weren't going to join on the built in voice either, if it was even any good.
Yes i brought up discord, which was maybe an mistake in the end. Sorry for that. But my point was if consoles would allow discord on console and discord would develop an app, than you could chat with pc players without using another device. Using the smartpone for hours of vc is possible of course, but you have to charge you smartphone very often then . Or Sony just develops an playstation app for PC and add the party feature to it, then people could use the ps party to VC in FF without anyone needing a second device to do so.

Yes I would go into a chat with three random people. I go into voice chat with 7 random people for trials quiet frequently. Why would 3 be any different or worse? Can't say I've experienced what you have in Overwatch either. All my experiences in their voice chat have been pleasant with people offering advice and such. Would need a larger sample size than our experiences to gauge it obviously but I do think people blow how bad it is out of proportion.
I wouldn't say the WoW community was less tame. Go look at their forums for for example. Things that go on there would not fly here. In game stuff "can" be just as bad or worse. I had to tone myself down when I stopped playing WoW and started FFXIV. If WoW can't get their voice chat right, I don't think SE can. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't want it to happen.
As for it being used to harass someone, yes, it can be, but so can a lot of other things.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to bring PS users and PC users together without any need of 3rd party programs or cell phones. I'm down for it.

Sorry, I think I phrased that wrong. I meant WoWs community is overall worse than ours so by that logic I assume that just because a voice chat doesn't work there doesn't mean it wouldn't work here. Sorry for any confusion.
I believe an voice chat with a few options to control with how many and who you want to communicate would be a great idea. Of course you'll find some toxic people, but then just mute them and you are good to go. Think about the positive for a moment... think about statics, because in theory you could help people and call out mechanics as the fight goes on. Or just have a good time. Also mentor channels in the voice chat would be huge in order to help people more than you could with the chat, since writting an huge wall of text can't explain an class as good as 10-30 min in vc could. I like the idea, but i don't believe it will happen aslong as ps consoles aren't allowed to communite with pc players via ingame voice chat.
