No worries. If they can't get it to work properly, as well as other MMOs can't get it to work properly, I don't think SE can get it to work right. Would I like FFXIV to have voice chat ? Yes I would, but only if you can switch it on and off.
I honestly wouldn't care but I doubt I would use it and would prefer if they focused on other things. I say that mainly because a lot of the content, if its a 4man dungeon most mechanics can be explained in a simple sentence or two. If its something far more advanced then you would already be in a Teamspeak/Discord room with a group trying to hammer out the mechanics. I can't imagine trying to explain Sophia Ex or really any primal at the beginning and expecting it to stick nor trying to "type it out" during.
No, I really don't want to join mic chats with random people, or be pressured into joining others on mic chat. I'd rather type what to do for new people.
Not to mention a lot of people play on servers that have other languages, I don't want to join a mic chat with people screaming in foreign at me.
Planetside 2's voice chat is damn near as good as my rented TS server and about on par with any Discord server. That game has a much larger amount of players in a single location (upwards of 300, 1158 by a Guinness world record). So a little group voice chat is possible.
With that said, in my experience in MMORPGs, most people mute it.
SEARCH. IT's been requested many times.
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
Only if the default is having it muted. I am not interested of people hear me speak. Likewise I can have the default to hear other people, but I would only agree to this suggestion if it is easy to mute others who are being annoying over it
We can also talk everything to death instead of playing the game. There's no reason for voice chat (external & internal), only exception would be raid via static and even that is unnecessary but it makes people more comfortable nowadays.
we don't need voice chat, when all the content this game has to offer can be done without hearing someones voice.
If the developers wanted voice chat they would of advertised that as a requirement in order to complete any of the content they created on the product information in order to play the game.
so seeing as its not on the box or online product information that its a requirement to do everything the game has to offer, we don't need it

Well this is just false. QoL additions are not required to be used by players by any means. I'm not sure how you even came up with this but it couldn't be more wrong.
show me and the millions of subscribers where it says on the box that the final fantasy 14 development team said " players must have voice chat to complete any of the content we created"
i'll save you the effort , it's not there, believe it or not there is groups of people who clear all content without using voice chat.
P.S they actually type with their keyboards ( oh the horror i have to use my fingers ??!!! when i even typing on the games forum too, how dare square enix not force the player base to use voice chat)
