I take you have never experienced the utter joy that is Xbox Live. Granted, FFXIV isn't nearly as hype competitive as say, Call of Duty, but I don't doubt for a minute a built in voice feature would lead to... shall we say, less than polite responses.
"Why the fuck are you using aoes?"
"Use fucking cleric. We're not here to carry your dumbass"
"WTF? Are you retarded?!"
I could go on.
Typing means people have to stop doing things, which most won't bother with. Voice? Now they can rage freely. And I ensure you, people will.
I don't understand why you would need it in dungeons. Unless its the first run on patch day anyone walking in there should know how to face roll the face roll content of a dungeon.
I mean really why would anyone want voice in this game, as mean and salty as the base is and the thin skin of players would see posts right after adding it to remove it because its mean.
Get discord, make a network or join a network of content users and go to town.

I think it's a good idea. Just have it set to off by default and have a tutorial showing people how to use it. Make it very simple to use. I feel that a lot of people would use it because it's so much quicker than getting people to go download third party programs if they don't have them already and then setting them up, etc. This way it would all be in client, easily accessible, and super user friendly without having to use third party programs. I honestly can't understand why people are against this.
Yes it is different because to use a third party program you have to tab out of game, start it up, wait for it to load, enter the chat room address, wait for that to load. An in game client could have a simple on/off switch. Much simpler.
I doubt that. Any examples that are not subject to personal bias?

Pretty much every other MMO that has built in voice chat, no one uses it because it is awful. I'd rather the dev's not waste time working on something few would use and most would come on the forums to complain about, especially when there are many, better, 3rd party apps most already use.I think it's a good idea. Things I have read on forums pertaining to those MMO's. I have never actually used them, since I tend to use voice chat outside of games sometimes as well, and only being able to use it while in a particular game is annoying.
WoW has built in voice chat and rarely anyone uses it, because it's so bad and I'm speaking from experience in using it.
From my raiding days in WoW, most people used ventrilo, as well as my raiding guild.

I would argue that WoWs community is also a lot less tame than ours but oh well. I still don't think adding one could hurt if it's set to off by default. If SE could do it right it would be more convenient. If you didn't want to hear people talking all you would have to do is turn it off.
As far as the argument that voice chat would then be required a lot of people already require 3rd party voice chat for their raids and trials so I don't see a difference except that it would be easier access to everyone instead of having to download third party.
I guess I'm just a bit miffed because everyone seems convinced that it would be used to harass people and troll while being harder to enforce the ToS in and it all just reeks of "because People suck this is why we can't have nice things."
