I sort of see her as that too; she's that mysterious character that gives us information on what's really going on, but we have to do errands for her in return. If one of the things I learned from anime it is that the Pipe Lady is most likely a ally NPC who serves as the "Black Market/Information seller" NPC in the storyline that may provide us some illegal assets and particular "Rumors" that goes around Othard for the right price.

The only explicit thing stated about Sharlayan being founded, is somewhere between the year 10 and 201, Likewise, around year 10, the survivors on Abalthia's Spine started to form small communities in Gyr Abania. Sharlayan forms their formal government several hundred years before Ala Mhigo does though.
So, Sharlayan is about as old as the practice of the Red Mages it would seem.
(Lorebook timeline, page 47)
Edit: Further, the origin story of Sharlayan on page 169 mentions a particular Archon teleporting a wooden arc of survivors of the flood to Abalathia's Spine. Though, presumably, on the other far western end, whereas Gyr Abania is in the far eastern end of the mountain range.

Guess the hypothesis of Sharlayan founded by a separate group of survivors would hold more ground than the other hypothesis. The only explicit thing stated about Sharlayan being founded, is somewhere between the year 10 and 201, Likewise, around year 10, the survivors on Abalthia's Spine started to form small communities in Gyr Abania. A calamity such as the Great Flood would normally create separate groups of survivors by escaping the Great Flood through separate means.
Yeah, given their similar, but opposite elements. (Both magical orders founded shortly after the Great Flood, but ending up on opposite sides of the continent,) I can imagine setting Red Mages up as a foil or rival to Sharlayan NPCs/Astrologians more than anything.

Will we ever get a female primal that isn't a "sexy" lady?
But Red Mage has the "High Ground" in the end in terms of philosophy by aiming to use their Magic to benefit others compared to the Sharlayan's Philosophy being only to benefit themselves.
Maybe but majority, if not all, female summons are always sexy in some way. However, if you want a ugly female Primal then Anima would do just fine

They could just make a new one. There are many myths around the world, for example here we have the "Cuca", a female crocodile witch that kidnaps children.Maybe but majority, if not all, female summons are always sexy in some way. I wish female primals were more like monsters and less like humans, like Ifrit, Leviathan, etc. I don't really look for this stuff but it's becoming so blatant.

No they don't, they're from Ala Mhigo. There's a theory going around that the viceroy who will be the main antagonist of Stormblood is somehow connected to the girls.
EDIT: Okay, so the main antagonist for SB - the one ppl are thinking are related to Lyse and Yda - is in control of Ala Mhigo. So since there's a female viceroy in Doma, who could that one be??
We're dealing with two viceroys???

A silly theory based on hair color and very little else.
The viceroy is the son of the current emperor - if there is a connection between him and either Yda or Lyse, it's not one we have any evidence for as of yet.
Also, that silly theory is that she is connected (or even sillier, actually is) to the viceroy in Ala Mhigo. The female viceroy mentioned is way over in Doma. There's no logical line of reasoning that would place Yda, had she survived, in control of Doma.
Simply put - survival took precedence over old grudges...particularly survival in the face of a calamity. That being said, Mhach were not irredeemable monsters but rather power hungry mages, and it's highly likely that the most corrupt/power hungry either perished in the flood or on the Void Ark. Furthermore, both sides in that conflict were guilty of shady things - the use of white magic did not make Ampdapor the "good side" by default. Finally, notice that the description only mentions that a new discipline was created - we currently have no information on how wide-spread the discipline ended up being at the time or the status of said discipline today. We only know that it was created in the time following the flood by practitioners of both arts.
