Weapon(s) Lore in XIV (SPOILER)

I've read these links, and I'm still not convinced. Until both Omega and Omega Weapon appear in the SAME GAME, as far as I'm concerned Omega is just "this installment's take on Omega Weapon", and vice versa. The fact that several have ties to the rift, Shinryu, etc, simply means that sometimes the authors decide to include these tidbits, and sometimes they don't.

It all strikes me as being one of those fanon things that people get way too worked up over.

That's funny because Omega Weapon first appeared in VI while Omega came in V. So no, Omega cannot be a version of Omega Weapon. Also OW is just a recolored Ultima Weapon while Omega looks completely different. Also I don't know where you got the idea that OW has any ties to the rift or Shinryu.
