I made the same mistake but Omega Weapon and Omega are actually two different creatures.

I've read these links, and I'm still not convinced. Until both Omega and Omega Weapon appear in the SAME GAME, as far as I'm concerned Omega is just "this installment's take on Omega Weapon", and vice versa. The fact that several have ties to the rift, Shinryu, etc, simply means that sometimes the authors decide to include these tidbits, and sometimes they don't.

It all strikes me as being one of those fanon things that people get way too worked up over. Of course, like any bit of fanon, the devs are free to make it real someday. But I do not yet believe that day has come.
