Agreed - I dont understand why people are constantly asking for a new race (...okay, I understand why guys want to look at bunny-girls, I guess... but thats not actually something I agree with or even support at all).
Why do you want a new race? Are you so unhappy with the ones we're having? Is it just for the sake of having something new? Since its only cosmetic in the end but requires quite a bit or work, I would imagine, I dont understand the appeal of adding a new race - when the world is already well established without that race - AuRa were weird enough, if you ask me... Cant imagine playing through the story as an AuRa but having Yugiri cover up her face for a good while because she could scare people...

While constantly asking for a new race does seem kinda outrageous, it does give the developers ideas on how popular the demand is, and what people are wanting to see. Adding new races IS a part of world building, and while 'the world is already well established' without additional ones, as expansions come by it WILL be necessary to eventually add new races as our world is expanded. But not all races need to be playable either (Vanu vanu and Gnath).

Yugiri was introduced during 2.X. The Au'ra were added as a playable race in 3.X, and we're going to be traveling to some of their native lands in 4.X. Seems like the best we can realistically hope for is a new playable race being revealed in MSQ that might become playable in 5.0. 1 new race every 2-3 expansions sounds like a decent pace to match the speed of world expansion.

But, in reality, other than a dozen or so enthusiastic posters here on the OF, where is the demand of any significance for a new race?

Adding new tribes and cultural variants of existing races is just as viable in regard to world building. How many playable character races does Earth have? One. Do we need to have a dozen different playable races for a world? Not really, as long as the character customization is up to the task of providing variety within the different races we already have. Wider variation from better customization would far outwiegh the addition of a new race in terms of worth to the player base as a whole.

We already have a perfect candidate for 'playable race' - the Garleans.

Beastmen are completely unnecessary, create problems with gear models, lore and just about everything else you can imagine considering beast tribes are the ones summoning Primals... As for the person who quipped (can't remember if this was in this thread or the one about Viera) about guys wanting to see bunny girls, that desire would be far better served by the Bunny ears and tail that comes with the costumes from the Saucer, since it's far closer to the Bunny Girl (or Playboy Bunny) trope that people are leaning on.

No, but they appear as a people, to have a natural ability to construct and use Magitek, I feel sure that could be used to overcome the lack of natural affinity to 'magic'.
