Be happy you can at least hit it to get rewards outside of party. If my memory serves me, older games gave the loot to the pulling party and not anyone who whacked it. Having players scout spawn zones to get claim used to be a strategy.

I've seen a few games where pulling party only got the loot. WoW has since changed that and up to 23 people (IIRC) can get loot. In EQ, the person or group who did the most damage got the loot.
