You're looking at it backwards. The Anima questline is, essentially, a continuation of the level 50 relic weapon. But, you have an option to skip the level 50 portion if you do an extra step. The relic weapons are one giant line already.

No I'm looking at it as having multiple relics to build up, using the ARR relic to skip one simple step is a complete waste of the time put into it.

You're making a distinction where one doesn't need to exist. You have a level 50 relic. You can upgrade it to level 60 and do another questline after that, in the form of the Anima questline. The SB relic will be the same. We take the old relic and upgrade it to level 70 for a new questline.
