If a group member doesn't need the currency, there's the pass option.

Edit: I think people are getting too hung up on the word 'Need'. Of course everyone needs those drops, those seals won't just magically appear over time. I wonder if roll behavior would change if the options would be... Um... Wear - Trade - Pass?
It's possible - but I'm still of the mind of just ask. I typically check gear levels of other players - so like, when I'm on my MNK and there's another MNK in the party; I'll check their gear and by default go to greed for stuff they could use. If there isn't another player of the same class; I'll roll need unless asked. That's just how I've seen it done in the 3 years I've been playing. Drg: Hey, can I get that striking hat - need it for my MNK. Me: Sure, NP.

In many other mmos progression gear from dungeons was just used for that purpose, to upgrade ur stats. The only other thing that you could do would be vendor it. for this reason needing on piece of gear that isnt an upgrade on ur current gear is frowned upon.

This game works differently, they put effort on making old content relevant. there has to exist reasons for players to go back to old content and run it im order to make it relevant.

In this idea amongst other things comes dungeon gear, we can do a lot with it as many of u have pointed out and many players do run old dungeons just for the single purpose of glamour, oportunity for gc seals and desyn... (Tomes from roulettes...)

It my Idea that the current system is working well. What many of us do is, If we are looking for upgrade of gear or just looking for a specific gear, we just ask at the beginning and normally from my experience works very well.

There are also cases where you pass on something so that someone in the group with inferior gear can have it, and then they pass too so it drops to the floor. I think everyone has experienced that at least once, and that's why they get more proactive on rolling if they might actually have a use for the item.

In this case the poster has a level 60 and can easily gear any lower job with HQ marketplace gear, no problem. I would specifically expect them to say if they really wanted something on a different job that I happened to be playing, especially since I'm probably playing that job specifically to get glamour items on it.

Ultimately the responsibility is on the players to talk to one another. I don't think the system should be changed to make players even less communicative than they already are.

I can understand if someone is in this dungeon as their main and need the gear (but then the player can roll on need anyway) but leveling another class is not necessary in this game, you dont need it for the main story since you have your main job for this. So do you truly need it? I mean if someone rolls on it to buy goods for the relic on their main job arent they needing it too because they use it to make themselves stronger? If someone is planning to use a certain piece of armor for glamour and is wearing that glamour long enough isnt that person in greater need than someone that might not even play the other class much or even just switch out the equipment for better ones in the next run?

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

The ONLY time i "need" things that are a lower ilvl than my level but at max level (as if lower than max level i might want it when leveling another class) is if it is WVR repair so i can desynth. i get enough GC seals as it is so i don't see the point. i'll always greed on gear i can't need though

[QUOTE=Llus;4055542]It's my sub should never be an excuse for anything.

Mele DPS: It's my sub, I won't hit my positionals if I don't want to.
Ice Mage: It's my sub, I won't cast fire if I don't want to.
Bard: It's my sub, I won't use Foe Req or Mages ballad if I don't want to.
Tank: It's my sub, I won't take aggro if I don't want to.
    Healer: It's my sub, I won't DPS if I don't want to.
Entitled player: It's my sub, my sub is more important than your sub.

This was my point. I was being facetious. It just seems that the people that complain about other people rolling need on things that are under their ilvl are the same ones who say "it's my sub" as an excuse for poor dps or not trying in dungeons.

Yea, i know - i was just trying to add to the point and specifically about the mentality of the "my sub" that's been going on like mad lately.

I'd actually rather there was a "Ignore all loot" option for the start of a dungeon so my inventory doesn't get cluttered so much.

Aaaaaand you literally just walked into the same logical failure that I (and others) have explained pretty simply: you are only defining Need around item level, not around the multiple uses of the gear. What you consider priorities of Need versus what others consider priorities ultimately is decided by the simple rule of "who actually is playing that job?"
