Tbh: I expected you to have figured this out on yourself after two weeks, 55 levels and 15 years of experience... so what you needed to hear was "This is a different game"?

No one died. We were clearing trash faster. What reason was there to think "this is a different game" beyond getting kicked for the same behavior here, when I never have been in other mmo's? All the other mmo's you steamroll through trash, no one cares about trash, so is it hard for you to understand why someone would have that type of steamroll mindset coming in to this game?

And you're right. I think I have decided that it will come down to accepting I may get kicked some times. Statistically, it's probably at around 5% of my groups. It's just I haven't experienced this before in any other mmo so I was venting a bit.

did you (or anyone else here) not once develop the mindset of "Ok we don't need to be playing this safe, let's speed this up" and then change your play style accordingly?

I have never gotten that mindset. I've always followed the tank and dealt with what he decided to pull. If you want a faster run, ask the tank first. Don't just pull more mobs willy nilly. If they don't want to, then leave or deal with it.

I've played a lot of mmo's over the years and not once have I had that kind of mindset were I thought it was okay for a dps to pull mobs when it's the tanks job to do it... I think you may just be a bit impatient?

Well you have to remember every MMO has a standard method of play that the community as a whole has decided on. IN FFXIV tanks pull the mobs, just the way it is. Instead of pulling, you should ask the tank and healer if they can pull more packs to speed it up.

Kinda seems like some people took that 'kids' thing a little too personally, to me.

When tanking, a DPS running off to pull things ahead of you is sending a signal that they think you're tanking/pulling too slow. Sort of a gaming body language. It comes across as rude, regardless of your intentions, so it's good to communicate up front what your intentions are rather than wait for someone to get cranky with you because they're assuming you're being impatient.

Not to be rude, but if you paid attention to the games design as you leveled you'd have known that roles were important in Ffxiv. In my experience it is best to leave playstyles from other games in said games when you move to new game. After learning the new game if the chain pull or large pull style works then go for it.

Furthermore, speed pulling either large pulls or chain chain pulls just do not work for well for some classes below certain levels. This might not be readily apparent to a black mage though(not a slam to mage players I'm one too) as they have aoe and infinite resources from the beginning. Some classes have no aoe or horrible resource management at some stages of the game.

Some of the blame in all honesty, imo, is on the current players too. Not many seem to want teach new players the dungeons and things things work. Total disservice to the community at endgame imo. So players these days don't learn like we did when the game relaunched.

Ooookay - you get kicked. You know WHY you get kicked aka what the problem is. You continue to do that. You come here to whine and play the victim card, acting as if you've been misstreated...

So, if thats what you need to hear:
Let the tank pull, because thats how FFXIV and the community work. I'm sorry you couldnt figure that out by yourself after being kicked for it several times.
The tank decides how fast a run goes and how comfortable they are with masspulls - depending on ressource like TP (mainly for warrior) and MP (for DRK, PLD but also the healer) they might not want to do a masspull right now. Or they dont feel comfortable doing that because they dont main tank. Or they dont see a point in doing that. Or its a more "difficult" pull because there are mobs involved that dont move/hit very hard/"need" to be stunned etc. etc.
There are many reasons a tank might not want to do big pulls in this game at a specific point. I main a tank, I know my ways around every dungeon in the game, I like doing big pulls but sometimes I wont do them for the above reasons.
The suggestion "Go and play a tank" is actually a serious one because it will help you to understand how the game works and what to watch out for better - same goes for trying to play a healer and at least one of the melee classes: Everything will help you to understand how this game is working and how the classes (and hopefully the people behind the characters) are working together.

Right now you're giving me the impression that you're the only person in all those runs who knew how to play - yet you're the one who seems to know the least and who doesnt understand what game they're playing...
If you were unsure about how to play this game asking is a good idea - and I dont mean in the forums as level 55 BLM. One of the best runs I ever had was with a level 17 arcanist in TamTara, second dungeon in the game. And they asked about roles and what they had to focus on. Thats a good point to figure that stuff out for yourself - not almost 40 levels later when you only have to do that because you're getting kicked...

(also, sidenote: if you want to level, the sidequests and storyquests are providing a lot of exp - specially in the HW-areas you want to pay attention to the sidequests anyways to unlock flying)

Edit: Vidu Please stop with your victim card comments. I came to understand the situation not seek empathy. Many gave great constructive posts, and now I understand the other end better and can work on some of the positive comments like asking the party first if its okay to pull faster, before doing that behavior. Few of your comments were constructive. It seem's I've angered you very much so.
