I wouldn't entirely agree with this. Don't get me wrong. DPS jobs definitely have responsibility and they are pressured to perform to the best of their potential.

Tanks are expected to know how to navigate through dungeons, where to position safely, and maintain aggro. Healers are expected to keep you alive, and fix any mistakes other players may make. On top of that, they are expected to maximize dps output as well. Tanks are asked to drop tank stance; healers are asked to stance dance. It's efficient, but it does add a layer of difficulty to the job. That isn't to say that it doesn't come naturally to some of us though.

I think one of the underlying reasons why dps jobs are so popular is because they are less stressful to play. But I'm not saying DPS players don't go through any stress at all.

Berate and mock them. Even if they do quit, newer players take that personally. I am not saying this should, but for people with tank/healer anxiety already. It becomes that much more of a hurdle for them to get over the intimidation factor. Sure, it's all in their head. Any good player will tell you a wipe here or there is just how we learn. For someone new lacking a tough skin though, it doesn't help encourage them to do better when they get shouted down for xzy.

I don't think the problem is people not wanting responsibility, its that most of the people that do want it won't dare touch any form of duty finders with a 10 foot pole in a trinity based game. Tera had a problem similar to this with a lack of tanks and healers queing. The issue isn't not enough tanks or healers around. It's that at least in my experience tank and healer mains are usually friends list and guild exclusive. I'm guilty of this too, I've had my fair share of horror stories of trying to heal random parties in DF to where I won't ever play my healer in a random setting. I'd rather not que at all to be honest. If I have absolutely no choice then yes I'll que as dps. I'd rather heal for people I can trust 100% to not be dumb in a dungeon and those that have full trust in me that know I'm quite very much capable of keeping my friends alive while maintaining damage on the side.

You're making it sound as if tanking and healing alone were full-time jobs where something goes on top.

But tanking and healing are like 4-5 button jobs on their own. That adds complexity to the jobs, naturally, but in turn, their DPS combos are a lot less complex than that of a pure DPS. I think it roughly evens out.

Truth be told, I tend to find healing even with DPSing rather relaxing. Tanking...iffy. The first time I tanked Diabolos Hollow on my alt, I kinda freaked out...more than once. Didn't help when Walking Dead popped >.>

If you really want to know why, just go ahead and browse through this thread for a while.

i really enjoy playing my dark knight, but i have yet to even attempt tanking the "newish" stuff like the previous round of expert roulette or any of alexander. Unless i really know the content i'm gonna tank front-to-back, i get pretty bad tanking anxiety. Heck, i barely know how to even do a tank swap consistently. despite how easy tanking generally is, it's kinda hard for me to get past my reservations about it, but tanking with a friend in the group definitely helps quite a bit.

People can be lazy and press 123 as a pld just as easily though.

yeah, but a 123 tank cant really hold hate against groups, ive seen it, and its awful. a 123 dps just makes the run go slower, and no one ever calls them out on it because "you use a parser, im gonna report you"

A friend of mine had a nin in a lvl 50 roulette do 35 dps over the course of the entire dungeon. THIRTY FIVE DPS. I can auto attack and do more, on PLD.

Using a parser isn't reportable. Using a parser to make yourself feel 1337 and telling everyone "Look at my numbers noobs! Git Gud! You all suck!" IS reportable.

Hence the "no one ever calls them out on it" part of what you quoted.
