You're a lazy tool. FFXI has had this system for YEARS. Works fine and no complaints. You still have your dated gear with "Optimal". Wear that and stop the QQ.Why shouldnt you be wearing Lvl 50 gear at Lvl 1? If it scaled appropriately, there would be no reason to wear it at lvl 1, but you would still have the option.
Im allowed to wear the gear on all my R50 classes, so ive earnt the right, and yet as soon as I equip a fry-pan I can't wear my gear anymore? You telling me everytime I cook dinner I have to strip naked? Everytime I pick up a knife, I have to strip naked?
You're crazy.

But anyway. Couldn't you argue that FFXIV had a optimal/favoured system for a year and it worked fine. No complaints.
Maybe you should have taken your own advice and stopped "QQing" when you had the chance before you helped encourage the devs to ruin a perfectly good system.

I never QQ'd about it. I just don't care. It works fine and I've had no problems. I get naked when I change jobs? Fine, I'll put on other clothes. I haven't found this stressful at all. Mostly just... familiar.Your post will get a lot of likes, because this community likes to like posts like yours.

It's not just about being stripped naked though.
It's about flexibility and freedom.
It's about a system that scaled according to your level and class being a good, progressive feature which made FFXIV a leader in the industry rather than a follower.
i don't mind the new restricted system. but with all the dated stuff in the wards and all this waiting for the new gear to be crafted. i think the restriction's should have waited till 1.20 to let the new stuff fill the market wards first. i have found it quite hard to find a belt for my lv and infact only found one that was not dated 2 nights ago. and i have needed it since 1.19 went live. but now the market wards are starting to fill this problem is becoming less and less
(oops didn't mean to reply with a quote that is a miss click)
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
It's better the new way. Makes more sense. People actually have to buy things now and we get to see some variation on the field rather than lvl12 wearing the coolest/best gear for lvl50. Thank you YoshiP your a genius.
How does it make more "sense" ?
If it made sense I would be able to do what is logical. In the real world you can wear anything, but you might not have the skill to yield it to its full effect.
if a mage equips R50 plate armour at lvl1, he will be gimped because it does not favour his class and also because he is far outside optimal range, and also because he is sacrificing gear slots which might otherwise be filled with something more useful.
If he wears plate armour within his level range, he might get some of the defence stats to help him solo, but will still be sacrificing the gear slot which might otherwise be filled by something to help him DD/cure more.
Optimal system was genius.
I hope that this confusing situation is only temporary, because of the new and old recipes still live together... Maybe this will be fixed or corrected in 1.20.

Maybe they should keep the required level and class stuff on the higher level gear, and keep things, say 30 and below with optimal? Maybe there's a lot of Optimal gear below 30 that's not dated, I haven't really gone over all of the lower level gear yet, but In any case, while I see the uses of Required, I also see where the OP is coming from in a sense as well. Should totally be able to use a rank 18 weapon as a rank 15.
