'i barely personally insulted them' isn't a particularly valiant hill to die on, my dude
i was also speaking generally. almost every thread on the subject involves two factions talking past each other while finding more and more elaborate ways to reclaim the dubious honor of Pettiest Poster In The PvP Forum
This is because 100% of the people who are in favor of this restriction are backing it by citing their personal experiences, rather than thinking about how it effects the greater community or the future of the game mode.
of course they're citing their personal experiences, what else would they do? why would you expect them to tolerate being treated poorly, regardless of how infrequently it happens? why should they care about preserving a 'community' when their only interactions with that community are wildly negative?
Are you implying I possess some sort of devil's luck that matches me mostly against utter incompetents? That's a laughable argument. My experience is the experience of an average player, for whom The Feast is but one of many available activities. FFXIV's PvP was never meant to be the ultimate competition - there are countless other games that focus solely on this aspect. This isn't some kind of MOBA, designed to make imperfect players feel like worthless trash. Since day one, FFXIV was aiming to provide a much more relaxed, casual-friendly experience. And this is the reason why chat was disabled - not because the devs have no idea what they're doing, but because this was their goal all along.
Much like it always been. If you truly believe your scathing remarks made even one person reconsider their approach to PvP, well, I've got bad news for you. And to be clear, I'm not strictly against shaming. I hate to repeat myself, but the point I've been trying to make all this time is that some people's tendency to point out others' mistakes - perceived or not - brought more harm than good.

Any player that has minimal knowledge of PvP starting late should have a high winrate until Platinum, it isn't devil's luck. If you played in previous seasons you would understand. All the regulars rank up in the first week, eventually people who don't pvp or have no idea what they are doing are the only ones left at low rank. When a regular ranks up late in the season, it isn't uncommon for them to be 90% until Platinum. Season 2 I was brand new, started late, and was 80% until I got to top 20. I was also playing tank, the role that matters the least. Realize you were facing healers that are only there because if the event... Or healers that are still bronze-silver. That requires a 20% winrate.
If they want to make it casual, that's fine. Strip off the leaderboard and don't give placement rewards. They can't have their cake and eat it too. Please point me toward the press release where they say that too, you seem to have knowledge I don't.
I also come from a MOBA background. I was not a great mechanical player by any means, but I made it to the top 25 in season II at one point. How? Communication. I lead my team, people respected my calls, and I had good game sense. I was an imperfect player, and I achieved things that I wouldn't have been able in a climate like this. Most players could have done as well as me with practice, knowledge, and leadership.

Actually if you look at the first 2 first posts in this thread both of which are on opposition to the chat removal, at the time of this message you got (I'm not counting the rest of the likes in this thread because it's probably the same people liking again and again):
1: 26 likes for chat removed
2: 29 likes disagreeing with the chat removal.
So that should not be reassuring you that much.
It should also tell you that most of the people happy with the changes are silent and do not post on the forum about it, while the people unhappy about the chat removal are the most vocal as you can also see by all the unhappy chat removal thread duplicates.
As myself, I don't really care because I do not PvP in this game.
But I must grant Trotsky some Tanking points, for being the lone vocal about his side.![]()

As a new person just getting into feast, I'm half and half over the decision to not have chat. While I am trying my best to read up and know what I am supposed to contribute, it would be nice to be told if I am genuinely doing something wrong (which as a Paladin in feast, I've now learnt I shouldn't be trying to go too crazy grabbing the medals, heh). But at the same time I feel that less time griping, more time fighting is better and it devolving into a crap flinging match brings me down and I ain't learning anything from that.
I get that from my level of play it's completely different to rated play, so strategy is far more important at the upper levels and for this reason I do wish they would allow you to communicate more. A toxicity mute system would be way better than just disallowing talking all together.
They've clearly done it so it's a lot more accessible for the casual or newcomers to pvp like myself, but it might be a bit too extreme in my point of view. So it's better in the sense that I don't have to worry about being flamed into oblivion for being new and inexperienced, but worse because it would be nice to get some pointers as well as some strategy that can win us the match.
Don't judge me but I am fairly new to the feast xD So far, I have seen things where the communication is defiantely needed as spamming marks and the commands does not do nothing. If I say I need healing when I have a lot of stacks and I get nothing that is a player problem for being too dim. Like wise, if I mark healers or people will have high stacks and then no one does anything that is again a player problem. Would I like to then tell to focus so and so. Yes, yes I would as the tools are not great currently but at the same time, you can't fix stupid people.
