You don't even have to post on the thread. You can lurk and if someone catches your eye, send them Moogle Mail or /tell. If anything, I've seen more support than negative things from the thread.
In essence, you're saying everybody views the world, see's the world, and performs in it's splendors the same, exact way as you do. And when someone decides to do something different, they're branded Suspicious.

Unless I misunderstood what you're coming from, that is how I'm reading the statement you're presenting me. Contrary to what my argument said about everybody is different.

There should be no etc. Character race, time-zone and gender should be all you need. This game is not a dating website. The marriage thread was not created to be a dating thread. The OP says that in her first posts. This is a video game and the thread's popularity doesn't mean "Players want to date!". No it means players want to EB.

You can ignore the age part. That's just a random bit to entice those who do not like the idea. Such as yourself.

Tbh, Character race, time zone and gender should be fine. However don't you agree there should be a component that asks you this with a drop down box? "Gameplay: 1. "Forever Crafters!" "Let's do a dungeon run!" "We can Roleplay all day!" "I wan't to be friends." "Hardcore Raiding!" Etc. (Etc as I meant for it to mean whatever else of an idea you can think of. I do not literally mean an Etc. box to put in whatever you wan't).

Let me ask you this, if for whatever reason you wanted to use the Match making system, but you don't want an EB out of it. Wouldn't you want to be able to be matched up with someone who has the same desire as you? Or would you rather go through the headaches of being paired and splitting up more than necessary.

In all the system can be a mix of things, clearly the very few of you who decided to respond are getting the notions that this can be purely used for dating. (Given the rather blunt and short opening of my post) - Which is why, the idea shall grow no matter how negative the responses are.

As I said previously this is a system that can be used for fun. And it doesn't have to purely be an alternative step towards EB.

Truth to be told there is another thread lurking around the general discussion where players post to find a friend to play with.

    See this >>>>>>>>>>> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ghlight=Friend <<<<<<<<<<<

Why you may ask? Same reason as above, not everybody see's, live, and views the world as many of you do. And to ask someone to reform or assimilate into the culture you brought upon for others is out of the question.

In a gist, instead of such a system having to deal with EB, or having hook up status or anything of the sorts. Let's have it have a plethora of options rather it's looking for someone to raid with, craft, have adventures, RP, EB and so forth.

And I stress again, not everybody is interested in the way you'd want someone to make a friend. There are those who aren't interested in doing so with a group of friends, if so these players would being pushing towards the Free Company system. (As that's what it's for)

    Dear ladies,

I'm going to be your sweet, sweet nightmare.

    Brynhildr,
    Call me ♥
    XOXOXO

In all seriousness, I dunno how I feel about something like that. On one hand, maybe I'll find somebody who likes [my character] for who [he] is. On the other hand, I just can't find it in me to commit to a relationship in the cyber world. I need to be able to see the person, it's got to be real for me.

Then again, I've gotten attached to people's characters before, and it really hurt seeing them get along well with that special someone else. I had to constantly remind myself that it was just a game player having fun.

    Man, oh, man ><

Can't we all just kill dragons and rescue Princesses? Maybe I'm old fashioned but I thought that's what games are for. Didn't realise it was supposed to be Grindr with graphics.

Make A Friend/Marriage Megathreads are products of the community. They do their jobs just fine. We don't really need an in-game system. Because human interaction is not a system. That's up to the people. The Eternal Bonding is the system. Which is why I'd be okay with an Eternal Bonding Matchup system for people who want the items and go.

In my opinion if you are trying to *just* have friends a player's gender shouldn't matter. That's what the Friend Megathread did right. It's a video game.

As for your question, I wouldn't have a problem finding people who are interested in similar things. It's an MMO. Everyone has my main interest! Next step? Join and FC and talk to people. Pretty simple.

TL;DR - The Megathreads are products of community interaction. Why take that away? "Dont fix what isnt broken" they say. Just get involved.

I have to disagree with the way you're wording things. Taking it away? This is simply making a greater convenience built upon the concept of those threads and the feedback on this one.

It could essentially take it away because there will now be an in-game system to do exactly what the people created on their own. Making their system useless. When things like that happen(official systems being created) the unofficial systems created by the people die out.

    Here's an example..

Gilgamesh is the unofficial Raiding server. It was named and created by the community. If SE somehow made an official raiding server and it wasn't Gilgamesh, the people will leave for the new official server and the community created by the players would die.

Same thing with Balmung, the unofficial RP server. The people created all of that. That's a good thing.

    Two things:

Threads like Marriage partner and Make a friend will always exists. Even in games were there is such a buddy system, players will post these thread irregardless. Does it mean having such a system is pointless? No. It's nice to see players search through different avenues to achieve their goals in a game. To say an automated system will take away this experience is a bit of an extreme, considering it's us the players choice as you've already stressed.

The second thing is this notion of "it's just a video game" is getting quite boring.

No, FFXIV is not just a video game. It's a M.M.O.R.P.G. And like any MMO, you will deal with people, see them, and play with them. You're bound to create a relationship with them one form or another, rather its asking to play with them tomorrow, always happy to see them online, to stalking them on the games social outlet via harassment, or talking crap about one another.

Keep the feedback rolling guys. /o/

To SE this IS just another video game though - and therefor I dont think they should interfere with friendly player interaction. They are a company, running an MMO, not a dating/find a friend service.

You may want to experience this game together with a (close) friend and thats understadeable, but it shouldnt be up to SE to (help you) find that person. The match making they "have" to do is to ensure that you can play their game - so DF, RF, PF - and get into your desired content.
EB isnt and shouldnt be a part of that. Adding a system like that and turning that quest into something else thats just on your queue-list doesnt seem like a great idea.
People will just do it because its another thing the game suggest them to do - but why SHOULD the game suggest that? Shoudlnt it rather be someting you choose to do because you want to?
I can also see problems with this match making - even if we're saying that age doesnt matter... we have to keep in mind that minors are playing this game too and that parents might be a little upset if their 13 year old daughter runs into a 25 year old guy who'd really like to ERP with his ingame wife now... I've never used any sort of dating app, but I would imagine they use some sort of "age-gate"? (At least I'd hope that...)
And while you could say that that can happen without the EB-Finder, you're certainly right - BUT! it wouldnt be that much of SEs responsibilty because it wasnt their system that matched them up.

Again: Even if this is more than a game to the community and they're making more than a game out of it, to SE/the devs this IS mainly a game, not a dating app (and I honestly dont see why that should change - just meeting someone by joining their FC/LS/PF party or saying "Hey, I really like your glamour, that looks cool!" is to much for you?)

I'm trying to be gentle here:

If you are having problems finding friends in this very social game to play with (on more than just a temporary basis since people come and go to the game) then maybe you need to consider a new FC or world transfer.

If you have tried that and it doesn't work it is unlikely that you will be able to work things out with a game provided match.

You might want to re-examine how you are approaching social interaction in the game and how it might come across to others because if your social interactions all fail it is likely you are coming across in a way you don't intend to.

Online interactions lack social queues that are easier to read/show irl and often we do not realize how others react to us unless they outright tell us.

If you expect to be able to form an irl relationship based on the game, well this happens sometimes but it is not something you can expect or force.

Too late for that statement. You should see how the Mentor, FC, and housing system is being upgraded.

It may be a video game in the end.

Yet, you're still going to interact with players rather you like it or not. Unless your telling me everyone with this statement has that much of a cold heart when they see another soul behind the Computer screen online. Tsk tsk tsk
