I have to disagree with the way you're wording things. Taking it away? This is simply making a greater convenience built upon the concept of those threads and the feedback on this one.
It could essentially take it away because there will now be an in-game system to do exactly what the people created on their own. Making their system useless. When things like that happen(official systems being created) the unofficial systems created by the people die out.
Here's an example..
Gilgamesh is the unofficial Raiding server. It was named and created by the community. If SE somehow made an official raiding server and it wasn't Gilgamesh, the people will leave for the new official server and the community created by the players would die.
Same thing with Balmung, the unofficial RP server. The people created all of that. That's a good thing.

Two things:
Threads like Marriage partner and Make a friend will always exists. Even in games were there is such a buddy system, players will post these thread irregardless. Does it mean having such a system is pointless? No. It's nice to see players search through different avenues to achieve their goals in a game. To say an automated system will take away this experience is a bit of an extreme, considering it's us the players choice as you've already stressed.
The second thing is this notion of "it's just a video game" is getting quite boring.
No, FFXIV is not just a video game. It's a M.M.O.R.P.G. And like any MMO, you will deal with people, see them, and play with them. You're bound to create a relationship with them one form or another, rather its asking to play with them tomorrow, always happy to see them online, to stalking them on the games social outlet via harassment, or talking crap about one another.
Keep the feedback rolling guys. /o/
I believe it will hurt the community made system.
You have to understand that SE adding some system isn't going to help anyone magically get some bond with someone friend or no. A friendship is not some thing that is asked for. It happens on its own accord.
A system like this won't help you make friends if the people don't want to be friends with you. Just isn't how it works.
Take the marriage thread for example.. That thread has one crucial flaw.. It only asks for marriage and that's it, it's not specific. That thread is borderline dating service. The people who use that thread to just JUST get married for the items and go are using the thread correctly. All the people asking for whatever more are using it in a way it isn't built for.
This is why the Friendship Thread was done correctly. Because the purpose was to make friends. Not boy/girlfriends, or husband's/wives.
Friend -> Best Friend -> Boy/Girlfriend -> Husband/Wife
Without those steps in order, you can't have a strong relationship. A system can create a marriage, because marriage is a system. It can't however, make a friendship.
This is why we don't need a matchup system. I'm not sure what you want Cleftobismal.. I assumed you wanted something romantic. If it's not that, and just want a friend, why not use aaaaalllll the tools SE gives you? Use the Friend Megathread.
Such is my title. I'm plenty aware systems like these don't form an immediate bond, let alone good ones.\o\ Finding your Sweet Lover (Or Nightmare) /o/
That's not even how it works.
You need to get past that I'm already all for a match system not being entirely related about Eternal bonding, boyfriend, girlfriend. I already compromised for that bit to be a tiny portion of it, and for it to mostly well. Find an adventurer who has a common ground/goal as you to duo with.
That's all it is.
Finding.
The rest of your post is getting into values of how a relationship would form which as I said in my previous posts not everyone views the way any relationship works the way you do. That's a whole different debate and quite frankly this thread isn't about how it forms or how it should form.
Can we move on from this please? The match making system is not gonna be a Dating one. Period.
Okay then. It's not for dating. It still does not change how relationships(I'm including friendships) go. I think you missed the idea. I don't think it's just my beliefs only <.<
I'm pretty sure any animal animal on earth(including us) can't just magically become friends with another.
You may think it's not the subject matter here but it matters.
Since we've deduced your system down to simply having an adventuring buddy, well... It's pretty simple really!
Just talk to someone. An FC? A LS? Random interaction with people in the world? Parties? Find a friend Megathread?
Find an adventurer to duo with? Make A Friend Megathread lol.

Magical-Mal has used reverse Psychology!
It wasn't effective . . . .
On a serious note:
Find...
Find..
Finding....
Search..
Searching. . ..
As I said previously, so this will be the last time I'm saying this. That's not how these system work. It just makes it easier to find a potential play buddy. Even on those dating sites you abhorently abhor, they will tell you the site is to find a "Potential partner".
Po-
Ten -
Tial.
Nothing is immediate about these things. Nadaaaah.
Or how about the fact despite us having Link Shell's and Free companies, someone just had the idea to make a thread. Why not go a step further when the interest is clearly being shown? A.K.A Stahp trying to flip the script. I've already made this point previously along with a picture.
I need more feedback and information before I do such a thing. Until then you can read on through the posts. As you should be doing anyways, for someone may have already asked and has been answered.
And why is a new system required here? Whats wrong with the PF?
Wouldnt it be like just another window - just one that less people look into?
What is wrong with all the social aspects the game is already offering the TOOLS for - LS, FC, static...
Why does SE create something new for a very personal level (face it, one-on-one is always going to be more personal - and from what you're saying thats what your looking for after all) that is not really their buisness...
Tell it to the numbers of people on these threads. Tell it to the numbers.
Must I also repeat myself, it's optional. Not required. And I get what you're trying to say here but things like Eternal bond, Golden saucer, and so forth I've blatantly said before, aren't required to be in this game either.

I understand your desire to meet someone and maybe I'm old fashioned - but we already have all those toold at hand, no need for "blind-speed-dating" and friendship out of a queue...
