Seriously? What is Xbox Gold Membership and the Playstation Plus? Switch needs a paid membership so as to support their servers, the whole reason Nintendo has had rubbish multiplayer is because they never had membership fees.

PS Plus is not required to play FFXIV. The use of PS PLus is actually up to the developers of a game. If they wish to host their own servers, PS Plus is not needed. PS Plus only covers games where Sony provides the server infrastructure used. Normal PSN authentication is not included in that, which is why a game like FFXIV doesn't need PS Plus.
