A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

All jokes aside, I suspect the more vitriolic posting habits have increased due to numerous conversational topics brought up regarding the game. Let's see, we have:
- A potential jump potion
- Difficulty of dungeons
- Healer DPS or lack thereof
- Combat changes and how they may effect the game
- What jobs everyone wants
While some of these are more heated discussions than others, they all prompt highly vocal disagreement which may come across "toxic". Whether it is or not is up to interpretation.

Reddit is way worse lol if you have a positive but different opinion, the hive mind (ew) down votes you.
People are toxic for different reasons. Everyone is different so there really is not one answer for it...
Hive-mind? That sounds pretty Gnath-ty to me.
Honestly, you're right. People want so badly to be validated in their negative opinions that they lash out against anyone who disagrees. I can't properly count the amount of times I've had someone deflect my arguments with an ad hominem accusation of "white knighting" for supplying a lengthy, reasoned argument as a counter to their own hatred (note, if you accuse someone of white-knighting but don't counter their arguments, then you're both admitting defeat to their logic, and are a part of the problem). On the forums and on Reddit, people don't want to let other people enjoy something.
It's like how on every Pokémon Go page on Facebook, just about every post has at least a dozen people who are adamant and insistent that no one plays it anymore.

Or Overwatch's forums..they get pretty bad at times too lolCountering a statement doesn't necessarily mean it is bashing, it's just simply a counter point, much like this statement. That is debate, but many times, a lot of people don't want to talk, they just want to say something and that be the only correct thing, regardless if it is or not. Then when others join in, all offering different views, it could come across to several as being hostile.
Generally, though, I don't think the XIV forums have quite reached that level. If you'd like to see hostile, I'll gladly direct you to GameFAQs.

Did you even read the Lalafell Hate Crime thread? It was a silly joke thread. It wasn't serious at all.Because people constantly post stupid threads.
If people post threads with intelligent commentary about the game, ideas or opinions that warrant discussion. Good on them.
But what we get instead is constant threads like the 'Why is Eorzea a clone of Earth'
'We need a cheap change-to-lalafell fantasia potion'
And 'lalafell hate crimes'
To give you some prime examples.
I think its just because at the end of the day we are humans , ha you see the same type of arguments on facebook when someone dresses their cat in a bunny suit its always gona be someone in opposition. Alot of people shut my ideas down but I shut others down as well its just always gona be two sides to the coin.
Majority of in game community are really nice. Don't judge them by what you read on fourms because that is not even 10% of the community.
