How can SE make sure in melee Range RDM isnt squishy as a caster?

If it just made zero difference why don't melee classes put on some caster gear and see if it makes any difference. I know that's a bit extreme, just take a blm and stay in melee range the whole time and see if it makes any difference than range, If anything just for hp sake if they are gona be half melee just to have a larger hp pool would be nice on a rdm than what they would get from caster gear.

If there was gear, which would give you a slightly higher dps as a melee, but only the def. of a caster robe... most competent melees would wear it.

I would agree, if it made me a glass cannon (to anything other than unavoidable damage or aoes) I'd wear it too.
