I don't disagree. I expect they will release v2.0 regardless of subs between now and then.
That overlooks the bigger picture of what I was opining. I don't see a multiplayer game that has 100 people left playing at any given time on a server as value add. The game ceases to exist, in its current form, if the player base drops below a certain point, because content (dungeons for example) become impossible to complete or so time consuming to find the people to run them with that it simply is not worth it.
Tacking a subscription on to the existing game is going to decimate the current player numbers. Who wants to play a multi-player game alone?
