Because people can choose their appearance freely without repercussions?
Anyone else not seeing anything wrong with that? >_>
Gee, throw in some gender "diversity" to make the choice of gender "meaningful" -> Men become Warriors of Light along with all DoW/DoM classes, Women may only become weavers, botanists, carpenters and cooks. Men can simply buy a house or chocobo, women have to marry a man to get access to these. Women may not use the chat within 25 yalms of men. There, meaningful gender diversity as we had it a couple centuries ago!
I'm sure such a feature would be very well received, because everyone likes their aesthetic choices to be "meaningful".
Its flavor text to differentiate the races in stat form, as it would make no sense from a lore standpoint for a lvl 1 lalafel to be as strong as a lvl 1 roegadyn. the difference in dps at 60 is going to be .001%, its not even worth complaining about. At 70 its going to be even less.
If you care about the miniscule stat differences between races, just change. Realistic folks will just continue the way they are because they just do not matter.
Their effect on your character is going to get smaller and smaller as our total stat count gets bigger and bigger, so stop being so fixated on it.
I think mithra were one of the more well-rounded races stat wise. Kind of an odd choice to use FFXI as an example of not having meaningful stat differences when galka mages and taru tanks were shunned because of their HP/MP pools.
Instead, you'll end up with everyone who is competitive playing the exact same race/job combinations because those are the best. Oh yeah, diversity woo! No thanks. I hated that part of WoW (played Forsaken - was often chided for my "poor choice" in race).
Stat points really don't matter. If we had the Racial system of WoW, I might see a point of complaining about it, but I actually LIKE their system. With each race having an ability all their own, it leads to a lot of planning when you roll your character. I mean, all Night Elves get a racial stealth option. Do you know how awesome that is, when you're playing a Night Elf Warrior in PvP? Everyone expects the squishy rogue or druid to be hiding. Nobody expects to suddenly have a shield in their face. Or play a Dwarf. Your racial removes almost all DoTs and gives you 10% more phys def for several seconds. Can you say tank class? Or. Take it on a stealth class, so you can remove all your DoTs before trying to stealth and run away.
Here? That wouldn't really work, due to the all-in-one principle. So you have a few stat points less. Big deal. It's not like that, or your chose deity has any meaningful impact. A point here or there doesn't even matter.
How would they be meaningful? Let's say Roegadyn get the biggest vitality pool but garbage Intelligence. Good luck ever getting into a static as a Black Mage. Either you go tank or you Fantasia to something better suited.
While I'd love for the races to have a unique ability, akin to WoW, I'd settle for bigger visual differences between them, esp with Clans.
The day any race is objectively better than another at a particular role for any reason beyond a few stat points is the day I quit the game. It's a terrible idea.
