I rather not have to suffer the "wrong" choice of picking a race if I play a certain job. FF11 has that sort of stuff if you like it that much.

I agree with the OP, I would like them to remove racial variances in stats completely, or at least make like a quest where you can make your stats similar to another races. Most people in this game play a specific race for aesthetics.
That being said, the racial stats in this game at the moment are very very very minimal so If they kept it the way it is its not that bad. However, I absolutely 100% do not want to go back to the days of XI when it comes to stuff like this, I would be super upset if they made the gap in stats any bigger then it already is at the momment.
This is a double-edged sword.
When racial differences are big in a game, it makes the races feel more unique. But, the bigger they become, the less you can pick for looks and have to pick for power. Take a look at WoW, where some races have, in the past, dominated due to their racial abilities. But, the races all feel very different because of those abilities, and it's very cool.
Conversely, small or no differences means that you can pick for pure aesthetics, which is nice. But, it means that all the races are functionally the same, which is boring for many.
Ultimately, there are two mutually exclusive crowds that you will never please. Some want pure aesthetic choices, some want large mechanical diversity so it can be part of their build.
I'd like more meaningful stats too. It could even help even out the distribution of races if the less popular choices like Roe had more desireable stat distributions.
Though with this commuity, if the differences were too big, wouldn't people force certain race/job combinations? Imagine party finders labeled "needing i250 tank for static no Wildwood Elezen."
Right now the only racial advantage I'm aware of is that a Dunesfolk Lalafell has enough base piety to perform a more damaging black mage opening rotation without needing to invest stat points or rely on a party's piety bonus.
We need quite the opposite, we need racial DIVERSITY to make the CHOICE of race MEANINGFUL!
Time was in MMOs (and off-line games come to that) that racials often were considerably different from race to race, which meant CHOOSING a race was more than mere cosmetics .. there's a reason there are so many cat girls in FFXI and FFXIV for example.. sadly min/maxers whined about it and over time games devs. toned down the differences so that for most purposes, such as in FFXIV, there is no REAL difference at all.

I agree with you. In fact, I was just thinking yesterday, I wish there were more differences between races, though not necessarily stat wise. Beside Midlander/Highlander, every other clan is just a carbon copy of each other, minus a few tiny things like skin color choices.
I agree with getting rid of racial stat differences and streamlining it across the board. The visual difference in races alone is almost enough, now we just need race specific combat animations and I'll be satisfied.
I'd prefer everyone just had 23 base stats for everything. They can find better things to separate the races.
They're really minute differences, and only get smaller as you gain levels and gear, so why bother?
At least now it offers a bit of flavor and can maaaaaybe act as a tiebreaker for choices.
So I should be forced to play a race I don't like if I want to be a decent healer? That would never fly here.We need quite the opposite, we need racial DIVERSITY to make the CHOICE of race MEANINGFUL!
