Alright so...

Basically the majority of the responses can be put into two categories; 1) Salt and 2) Its inevitable so meh. Basically, I am going to go into the latter, with a caveat.

These "Jump Potions" (Can we stop calling them that since its very clear they will be "books" or "tomes" of some sort when they inevitable get implemented?") are going to be a reality. In order to keep the game healthy it needs to constantly be getting new influxes of players. The only way to do this is the game needs a way to alleviate the starting experience and allow players a better experience in jumping into the game. FFXI did this by reducing the XP curve and allowing each separate expansion to be completely separate from each other. FFXIV create a single all encompassing main scenario which hurts new players, thus we need a way to allow players to catch up. Personally I believe there has got to be a better way than completely removing the main scenario from the equation. Creating a "new player" entry into each expansion which would allow you to jump ahead to current content but allow the older story to be completed at a later time would have made some semblance of sense. For a game so completely about its storyline to allow complete skipping just seems counter-intuitive. We have used the "waking up without memory" bit before, we could do the same here if done correctly.

As for Job Jump potions. I have ZERO issue with having these. My issue is the same as most other people's. Do not just allow a jump without teaching players how to play their class. Please create a new level 60 version of the Hall of Novice and require players to complete it. Please consider not doing a Jump from 1-60 and instead doing the Jump every 5/2 levels requiring the player to complete the Job quests. I know other games that have added this time of "paid level-up" feature have done so with some sort of tutorial once leveled up. The game really does require you as developers to create such a system. The basic frameworks for such a system are there already. Between Job Quests, Guildhests and Hall of Novice there is more than enough already created building blocks for you as developers to use.
