If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Fantasy Earth Zero already shut down or on it's way to being permanently shut down?
@viion makes a good point. It's not just a couple of hooked up computers -- it's a damn server farm that requires a high amount of electricity.
Could someone please explain the whole 50hz/60hz thing? Why not use a universal system? I assume that the hz refers to how the power is "pumped out," i.e. that 50hz means that it "beams out" electricity every 500ms? Sigh... I'm a pr-person. I don't understand the situation with the elctricity. :-(

50 hz is EU standard 220v plugs, 60hz is NA standard 120v systems are incompatible which is why west japan and east japan cannot share electricity

I think they'll reopen sometimes next week (even considering the timeframes Yoshida mentioned about patches). Given the situation, though, I wouldn't really be disappointed if that didn't happen. It's not like I have a shortage of games to play.
Knowing how the Japanese work, I know they will reopen them as soon as humanly possible.
I'm more busy cheering for the JSDF pilots and policemen that are working hard in the middle of radiated environment to drop water on the reactors and cool them down while energy is restored to the cooling systems. Those are true heroes.

Here is a new post on the mainpage

Well, seeing that post, it seems that SE themselves are hoping to reinstate the servers by at most the end of this month. Hopeful news...but they must remember to take their rest.
----
My condolences and well-wishes to those who are working in the radiation areas. I hope they survive the ordeal, and live to become named heroes.... -bows-
At least they've given us a tentative date much nicer than maybe a week could be a month we arnt sure....
Yay Tuesday.
They will just re-evaluate the situation on Tuesday (3/22)... I'm still guessing April 5th. Anyone else want to guess? We could gamble with RL gil!

I'm not really technical on this at all, but they've been talking about it on Japanese TV and this is the situation that they report.
After WWII, western Japan received power generation equipment from America which operates on 60Hz, while eastern Japan got equipment from Germany which operates on 50Hz.
All of Japan works on 100v and the plugs are just like those in America. Many electronics for Japan are designed to work on both frequencies, so for most people it doesn't really matter in day to day life.
Trying to standardize the country now is an almost impossibly huge task, and with dual frequency electronics becoming the norm there was no real motivation to fix the situation.
Apparently there is only 1 machine in the country that can convert large amounts of electricity between 60Hz and 50Hz, and there is not way for it to keep up with the demand... so we're pretty much stuck.

at the earliest im thinking the 28th
