My best guess would be around a month, so Mid April? I also think that SE are still working, I fully doubt they have all there computers online but they may have a couple per department online, I think with all the issues they are having there that there probarbly isnt enough people to use all the computers anyway.

@Galamantyl: Poor hamsters....feel for them as well! They've been subject to the terrors of the earthquake!
And good luck trying to get them to cooperate. You can volunteer to get rid of their daily discharges in the cages. Gloves are recommended, but not necessary. Please be aware of ammonia-gases; side-effects may include bad-smell-induced comas and potential death.

Perhaps late March or early April will be the earliest they can get the servers back to us. I do hope that they'll take some rests in between as well, though.

[QUOTE=Elaguila;38991]I do think it's related. Why would they let SE offices run with electricity, and not let them fire up their servers?
Light consumption is not comparable at all with AC and Server consumption of electricity
While i think they should delay it more,
SE is a company to make money so i highly doubt this will take more than early April to bring servers back online.
They are currently loosing money, lot of it.With ffxi as well.I see no reason to turn on ffxi servers and leave ffxiv shut down.
They made a donation etc , so i doubt they can do anything more than go back to work for the sake of the company.
Unless more natural disasters occur, but judging by japan history on recovering from catastrophes such as this,i believe servers shouldn't be offline for long.
in before someone says people before game,i agree.
But in the business world it doesn't quite work that way.The faster they can bring back servers online the faster they can start making money.

I think a lot of you are not realising that some of it is out of SE's hand, even if it they could get the power, the ISP supplier might have been ordered to reduce non emergency bandwidth, especially in a crisis when everyone is trying to use phones to contact families or going on internet to find out whats happened, Sony shipped out like 30'000 radios for broadcast information.
Then there is also the transport issues and the blackouts, plus if a blackout spontaneously occurred during the server running it could corrupt data. Also SE just fall under a blanket of businesses with high constant energy sources so it will of been an order for all companies under that category to reduce power. Also servers do cost a lot to run.
Its also not just "a room full of computers", they probably have shut down many internal servers, there is also air conditioning that needs to be turned off, XI servers, Zero servers, plenty of other servers.
It all mounts up XD and speculation for me changes depending on the current condition, if I'll be honest this is one of the times i wish US did what it does best, get its nose stuck into other countries business XD

lol@viion We have more than enough military bases in Japan already.
Anyhow, to the point at hand they'll be back before too much longer. The government will prioritize the supply towards critical infrastructure, and then to industry and commerce. The civilians will be expected to conserve individually and make do without for the greater good of the economy until the situation improves. And instead of turning into a pack of raving lunatics like we did here in the States during Katrina, they'll get things taken care of in a civil fashion and not cause themselves a pile of other problems.
So I'd say we'll see them back up within a week, but how reliable they will be is going to be another matter. From what I heard on the news (please don't quote me on this) that plant accounts for 10% of the energy on that island. So it could be a while (if that's a true number) before we stop seeing rolling blackouts.
I suggest they move servers to EU so I can claim an NM before japanese do ...
