They certainly work as it is, but it's one of my least favourite systems that accomplish the same thing. I think the costume system in Wildstar worked well - speak to vendor, set costume, the no matter what gear you change, your costume stays the same. Guild Wars 2's system is pretty much the same as here IIRC, but fewer types of prisms and unlocked outfits. WoW's system works alright, with unlocked transmogs and you apply them to your gear at a vendor. IMO Wildstar > WoW > GW2 > FFXIV

Well swtor must have the best system then u just pay in game money to glam over anything u want if it fits your class, just really doesnt make sense to do it otherwise. What exactly are who exactly are prisms helping in the game its just a bit of an annoyance

I think the best system is from Rift :
    a second character sheet
a "book" that keeps all the glam of all the armour you got
    no class restriction
glam shared by all the charac of your account

This system was designed by Vogue xD

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

I havent played rift but , it sounds like a good system, I just wasnt use to a game tellin me hey you have to have prisms and need to be a certain level before u can even wear what u want. When I found out about this inconvenience I right away decided to level to 50 just so I could glam and went back to msq later. Like glamour is such a big part of the game I know that for some new players it may have been a deal breaker for them.

Haven't played Wildstar much, but I do know that their glamour system is pretty good. Having it apply to an item slot instead of a piece of gear is nice.
GW2's system of unlocking gear and weapon skins is great, as well as being able to change your look everywhere. But outside of the full outfits, I didn't really like how transmutation charges were obtained, it kinda discouraged me from changing my looks. WoW has a similar system to GW2 now, with some restrictions on unlocking appearances, and just a gold cost to change appearances.

In my opinion, the near-perfect system would use:
    • GW2's unlocking system
    • WoW's transmog UI (GW2's UI works too)
    • WoW's ability to apply appearances to a spec/job. (For example, my mage has one set of gear, but looks different in each of the 3 specs)
    • XIV's prisms, as it allows crafters to make a bit of gil, if they're not into high end crafting (although a simple gil cost would probably be better, since it'd be a gil sink).

Leveling doesn't take ages, and new players will be upgrading their gear pretty often, along the way. I don't really see most of them spending gil on glamours to change their appearance, when it's only for like an hour or so.

Besides, the prisms allow the lower end of crafters to make a bit of gil, so it'd be a bad thing to remove it. Prisms even make sense lore wise, particularly when it comes to imps, who seem to glamour themselves to look different.
