This isn't a "get good" or "try harder" scenario, this is a "you may legitimately be the best PvPer in the game and still miss this due to random chance" scenario. Casual players know they have no chance, so there is no upside to this reward because it may as well not exist. But there is a downside (see: the original post).
Well pvp never worked out great on this game, probably the reason they are now adding minions and mounts to it. People are more invested or happier to just give it a try than prior. However it's not true that casual players can't get the items, I'm not sure if you have run pvp lately but I find myself often enough in groups with just casual people or win traders or people that just afk it fully. I don't think I've met a "good/best" pvp'er at least not on this game, not to mention that ffxiv isn't made for pvp compared to actual games that have a huge pvp popularity. I would just say, give it a try, if you score great if not at least you tried and with more people queue'ing it might even go quicker.

Just because you haven't met them doesn't mean there aren't at least 10 of them on your data center. Note, not server, data center. And this isn't a reward from a one-time thing, this is an overall ranking. You aren't going to luck into it.

This will get more people to do PvP, but only people who are overconfident and/or terrible at math. If they want an incentive, they need to make it achievable. This isn't.

You would have thought they would have learned from the non existant PVP lines at fan fest. No one wanted to do PVP. They were begging for players. Adding one time rewards to it is only going piss people off, case in point.

I wanted to address this directly. I'm an avid PvP player of this game. I fell in love with it despite all the imperfections and lack of popularity. I play it for the love of battle and recently started making videos of my best plays for the fun of it. Rewards are nice, but they're not the reason I enjoy PvP. I was even irritated when SE made the ADS mount I repeatedly asked for into a PvP reward, but it didn't make or break PvP for me.

I'm shooting down your statement directly. PvP happens, and there's a small but dedicated number of players enjoying it, with more curious but hesitant to approach it, and statements like yours are discouraging and unhelpful. I understand incentive might be nice to attract new people, and I will agree only with the fact that one time rewards aren't a good thing to motivate with, but some of us who PvP and enjoy it don't need the incentives. It's simply one of the things we love about the game.

That said, and with all due respect, if only now you want to PvP, just for some mount or a minion, please just save yourself the time and trouble. I mean, if you want it bad enough to fight and improve and rise up as an FFXIV PvPer, sure, go ahead. But if it's purely for the shiny new toy, then you'll wash your hands of it and never bother again, there are many of us that will practically guarantee you won't get it.

And I don't even know what it is or want it.

Go ahead and shoot down my statement but it doesn't make it any less true. I know plenty of people, myself included, that refuse to participate due to the trade winners, cheating, and boosters. You know what one time rewards do? Encourage more win trading, cheating, and boosting of rank. It does nothing to encourage actual PVP. People just want the reward. You would have thought they would have learned from the mount and mentor roulette. But, it seems thinking is in low supply. Throw out rewards but no thought about what it actually does to the game. Not exactly good for business.

If they want a good business model for PVP, they should look at GW2.

If you don't want to participate in pvp because of wintraders, then fine, that's your loss. You greatly exaggerate the effect wintraders have on the ranking though, lol. I can tell you right know that the vast majority of people in the top 100 on Aether last season absolutely do deserve their spot, and I should know because I played with many of them multiple times, match after match after match. And the people in the top 10? You don't get there through wintrading. When the spotlight is on you and the community is so tight knit, it's very easy for someone to catch on. Almost everyone in the top 10 deserves their spot with the exception of like 1 person who is suspicious, who I won't name, but SE seems to think they earned it too so who am I to say they're wrong?

There were some wintraders on Aether but they were reported, stripped of their rewards and banned. So it's not like SE doesn't care. Wintrading is much easier to catch when it's a premade, too.

Of course I can only speak for Aether data center, I don't play on Primal or Chaos, and from what I've heard the JP data centers are much more competitive than the NA and EU ones so it's probably even LESS of a problem there.

To be honest, I don't mind going to PvP. But the thing is, I have always had bad experiences in it. Really toxic people. *I know not every player is toxic* But it's just really bothersome how I get unlucky to meet that part of the community.

Before server/latency fixes i could agree with this but after that got fixed there are really no issues in PvP anymore, only problem is the players themself when it comes to "pvp sucks in ffxiv" as 80% of them SIMPLY DONT KNOW HOW TO PLAY THESE MODES PROPERLY. This is sadly the cold truth but it is the players that ruins pvp most of the time(SE has made some screwups aswell when it comes to pvp)not the mode or gameplay itself.

Feast was riddled with cheaters/afk'ers/leechers and both FL modes have now become pure TDM modes where everyone is just fragging in mid... just to give some examples why i dont really enjoy PvP that much anymore :s
