For sure, graphic quality isn't for everyone. That said, I find it amusing you compare it to a 14 year old game :PIf we get higher resolution textures, that's awesome, I certainly wouldn't complain, but to me I'm also not that bothered either.
Like everyone else I've noticed it when the floors don't look that great, but I'm usually moving somewhere/killing something to really pay it much attention and overall I'm very happy with the current quality (especially when you compare it to something like FFXI!)
The console excuse is... Sigh.
Give PC players graphic options on pair of their platforms, let console users play as they platforms allow. That whole "experience must be similar" policy is crap, and is hurting the PC platform.
You sure like wasting words!...
Yes, by 4K I mean models with a considerably higher polygon count, worth of 4K textures, if you like low polygon count then be happy, I don't and I can't be glad about it unless they make them better!...
You can argue all you want but SE can still improve the game by making at the very least the player's character a 4K model whilst keeping the rest of the NPCs the same (polygon count) but everything with corresponding 4K textures!...
Parties and raids might be able to handle from 8 to 72 4K models, if not main character only!...
There's something good about this MMO game and that is that all characters look good compared to offline games where only the main characters look nice and the rest just like garbage, FFX as example!...
Yes, you should be confused. DX12 means nothing. DX12 is a library of APIS and is *nothing* without the hardware to support it. The same is true of DX11. Oh, BTW, PS4 hardware has all the functionality covered by the DX11 APIs, it just uses a different, but equivalent set of APIs. Stop treating DX11/DX12/DX-whatever as some kind of magical pixie dust of hi-res goodness. It's nothing of the sort, it's just middleware.SE and Yoshi-P could upgrade the API to DirectX 12 and use all the new features, that way multi-core CPU would work much better and the game could see an improvement in FPS for many players!...
They could also upgrade the game's engine to their new one that works with DX12 and maybe even Vulkan, there are so many ways they could improve FFXIV, I have no idea of why they don't invest more in this game if it is a solid money maker!...
**snip**
Whatever, my GPU can handle DX12 and it does have improvements over DX11 and older, however insignificant they might look!...
In any case, everything SE can do to make the game a better experience means nothing if your hardware can't make use of it, that's why any upcoming improvements will most likely always be optional (in-game settings), I for once like using Maximum settings in the graphics options and will gladly welcome 4K!...
Oh, by the way, try Youtube to learn the differences DX12 can do now compared to older versions and what it might be able to do with more powerful hardware!...

Wait are we starting up on the Ps4 non Pro limitations thing? hahah
It is completely possible for games to run differnet textures on the ps4 and the pc and people would still be able to play together. I think honestly the words people are looking for is developer limitations. Yoshi deserves a bigger crew. The crew deserves a bigger crew.
