Tossed in my BLM Zeta in and completed my DRK anima. Using the "have you even made one?" excuse to justify your argument is weak.
And I remain disappointed I couldn't put Piety on it. Such customization.
I feel some harmony with this want.Originally Posted by Nalien
I just want a narrative from my Relics... I want to feel like I'm on an epic quest to forge a legendary weapon... Instead I feel like I'm doing chores to obtain a glorified tomestone weapon... I'm not putting any extra effort into obtaining these things, the upgrade process is practically automatic at this point... "Oh, I've nearly capped Esoterics, time to buy Umbrite"... First two steps were bad, but the latest three are worse... FATE grinds, though I loath them, at least meant I had to put effort into getting the weapon... Same for dungeons, I have to go out and clear those dungeon, else I'm not progressing... Unidentified items? While they gave us options, they took away the feeling of doing something specific to progress... I'd have loved a second version of Alexandrite Maps here, so rather than getting the Unidentified item directly, you have to go do a special Map for it... Aether Oil? Literally just a Esoterics grind you can get done while capping Lore, no extra effort required unless you want to speed up the process... Umbrite? Same deal...
They've made Anima weapons practically automatic these days... So long as you're playing the game, you're likely to finish the damn thing... You don't have to go out of your way to do anything after the dungeons, it's just a slow tomestone grind... That doesn't make for an interesting reward... Nobody gets to the top of an escalator and cheers because they got to the top... They just stood there and you took them to the top... That's how Anima weapons feel to me now... I can sit on the escalator or run up the stairs, either way there is no achievement...
I actually imagine I'll be more interested in the Scriptures weapons at this point... Presumably we'll have to go out of our way to farm Creator for those as well as tomestones... Unless they give me a Balrahn style solo challenge for the final step, the Anima weapons are just an incredibly dull tomestone grind... The flavour around the weapon is the only redeeming feature, and that honestly sucks... My Nothung and Kannagi are functionally the same, they gave us "living" weapons, and pretty much instantly separated the Anima from the weapon, removing any individuality across weapons... They're all just the same little spirit thing... Doesn't help that the current step feels like something out of Breaking Bad, my Anima seems to have developed an addiction to this blue crystal sand substance... I hope at the very least, the final step isn't some obnoxious glow, but instead an obnoxious text bubble coming off our weapons... I'm meant to be making a living weapon, give the weapon some personality... Christ, XI did a better job of this with a single cutscene, and Wings of the Goddess took us back to see some of the Relics talking in combat...
A narrative. Makes me think of crafting a lightsaber in Swtor, you went on a quest and actually crafted it yourself. The tombstones make it feel like you are buying it with cash, versus a narrative accomplishment. Tombstones are fine for gear that gets replaced. The relics are not really replaced only powered-up if you go beyond name changes.
The could introduce some fates, guildleves, instances, actually designed to give narrative, context, and specific encounters in addition to what is given now.

Wasn't using it as an excuse. I was simply curious if you had done it. Thank you for your response. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours.
And that's A okay. Problem players have though is eventually we toss it aside to the point I'm beginning to think it's just going to be push and pull between relic, crafted, and tomestone gear with current savage raid weapons always coming out on top.
But even then at some point a weapon does not stay with you. You throw them all out. And for some players in a Lore perspective feel that's horrible.
SE should just make everything a Relic style grind, by just flipping the Glamour system...
Rather than taking a new piece of gear, and slapping an old skin on it... I'd prefer to take a weapon I like (Balmung, for example), and slap new stats onto it... Then pretty much any piece of gear you want can be a "Relic", you can upgrade that Lv1 Weathered Bow to i240 if you want... Perhaps have stages, so it's not just a case of i1 to i240, but I'd enjoy something like that much more than the current Glamour system... It bugs me that my favorite equipment sits on a retainer until it's time for me to update gear...
OK, that takes away a structured narrative (as if we even have one), but it instead gives us a sandbox one... I would make my own narrative around upgrading Balmung, and you'd make your own around upgrading whatever... Whatever challenges we face along the way would be entirely up to us... Perhaps you bested Nidhogg to get to i235, while I took on Palace of the Dead... Instead of getting new gear to replace old gear, you'd be using it to enhance old gear, that even provides new value to crap like dungeon drops...
I'll admit, this is mostly coming from my deep hatred of Glamour Prisms as a mechanism, but I do also want to use Balmung as an actual weapon, not as a splash of paint over Guillotine of the Tyrant...

Just a PSA: hate me if you will, but I just wanted to let anyone thinking of trying out legion, who is unsure if it's worth it, that it's actually really awesome. Most interesting story since wrath. No emo dragons, porky pandas, ore egomaniacal orcs here, just an old nemesis back for round two. All love to ff14, of course, but if you're on the fence I'd say give it a shot. I play both.
Takes way less than 10 runs. I had 2.5 weapons in 10 runs, just depends on your luck with silver chests.Zetsumi Tsunaras:
I'm not sure if Yoshi P has analyzed that subject correctly.
Its way faster to obtain an i240 lore weapon and get a i235 relic through palace of the dead than what Yoshi P is refering too as the easier route for casual players.
Palace of the dead is a way more casual route than the anima questline. Do palace of the dead 10 times and you have an i235 relic.
Lets say all ten runs take 10h total to obtain thats still way faster than getting a relic from i200 to i240.
We can all be realistic about that part.
ten runs, that would have to be some seriously bad luck. I got 3 wpns, and got to +25/26 in 15 or 16 runs (saving that progress for the new set of floors)
You mean a weapon that progresses with you that you can use for the rest of that expansion and it not being replaced next patch? lololol
i don't get the attitude or the expectations some ppl have of the game. it progresses every (or every 2nd) patch. having an emotional bond to the gear you got is going to disappoint you eventually. all your gear will be exchanged sooner or later and if you think this will change anytime soon, you are playing the wrong game. even the next relic step is a simple replacement for what you used before. our relic isn't growing constantly, only when a new quest is added and when we finish it.
