No. If I went into a zone, I did all the side quests, then the MSQ until that brought me to a new zone. I was usually 5 levels ahead of the MSQ by the time I did it, so I barely avoided being synced down for duties. However, I ONLY did quests. Had I done my leves and guildhests as religiously as I did my quests, I probably would have been closer to 10 levels ahead of my MSQ. Or if I did my dungeons twice instead of once when I unlocked one. It's very easy to be far ahead the MSQ just by playing the game normally.

Nowadays, they're orange and they pulse (I believe it was made this way for the colourblind community).
It was NEST's videos. They are more in line with their comedy and friend dynamic than actually being guides (though they make those, too). Their Machinist has the form of color-blindness that muddies greens, so the green pools of energy were blending in with ground to him on their Seph Ex runs. He complained that he couldn't tweak the greens to blues so he could see them and was a perfect example on why FFXIV needs more color-blind friendly options.

He probably can't see friendly mob AoEs, either.

On my first job to 50 I did this, but come the expansion I saved all my side quests for my second class. I now say to new players in my Fc, save the side quests for an alternate class. Reason being you don't have the MSQ exp.

All that said, SE did try to make the two attacks distinguishable. You'd just need to go the extra mile and explain the design of the debuffs and which design goes with which animation of the orb. Vine/plant orb requires a shield debuff. "Eyeball" orb requires the X debuff.

A colourblind mode would definitely make it easier, though.

And you'd also try to keep your gear up to date with your level? (either from quest rewards or purchasing from NPC vendors) By the way, I can't recall if any quests in Coerthas direct you to Ul'dah (where you accept the quest to unlock Cutters Cry).

I feel that its pretty clear you are supposed to dodge AoEs, you should know basic mechanics by self discovery/habit by level 40 and that doing your class and job quests are self explanatory because the tutorial/follow the main scenario quest icon are rather clear.

But I am a long time player, not just XIV but games. Some people... are not. It's not common sense to them that a Black mage has fire spells or that a Gladiator is a tank and that by taking damage you are lowering the performance of the group as a whole. There are inexperienced people, whether it be ignorance and unwillingness to learn or just a matter of them needing it to be said to them over and over so they 'get it' doesn't matter because they are there none the less.

It's not a matter of 'looking it up' its about the motivation to be efficient, and some people don't have that motivation. And that's OK.
It's OK because they are free to lack that motivation. What is not OK, is for them to be a jerk about it. And it is equally distasteful for an experienced player to be a jerk about it.

I am not accusing either OP or the inexperienced player in question of this. And I can understand an inexperienced player having some gear that isn't quite up to par because they want to see the next great thing and rush without farming/seeking new gear. That will lock them out of content soon enough.

But this is a MMO, and a MMO requires everyone to put in some effort (patience, willingness to learn) for the communities sake. The sooner that is understood, the more fun we will have.

What's the difference between someone telling you how to do it and watching a guide? I get that some people wanna go in blind (hey knock yourself out) but you can't have it both ways. Either go in blind or watch a video.

As someone who still has a bit of a hard time dodging AOEs myself, I think it's more a matter of anticipation rather than "can you move out of the way." Especially without the experience of fighting bosses/enemies repeatedly, you don't really have a figurative clock set in your head as to when you should start moving, so what happens, at least in my case, is that I see the marker, go "oh sh-t I need to move," side-step, and still get hit as I'm too late before the cast timer runs up. All of this stuff requires some practice, and not everyone has the reaction time for some of these either.

Because one expects you to take seconds and the other is noticeably longer AND generally covers more than is actually necessary (meaning unnecessary need to watch out for mechanics that don't mean anything). I know some folks would say that if they don't have the time to watch a video for a few minutes, then that's on them... well so is spending seconds typing it out for them. There's no higher ground for snobbery on that matter lol. Actually, not spending the few seconds typing out a warning on mechanics (at least if asked) for that petty reason makes you a target of mockery lol.

Going in blind doesn't always imply someone is not willing to compromise discovery from scratch for some bit of warning. If there's some "duh" type of group wipe mechanic, being warned about it isn't going to destroy their experience as a whole.

End of the day, Do you know why those people are so freaking good on the YouTube guides? because they didn't need no fricking guide they learnt the mechanics and played the game lol and every time they failed they got back up and tried again.
