    No. If I went into a zone, I did all the side quests, then the MSQ until that brought me to a new zone. I was usually 5 levels ahead of the MSQ by the time I did it, so I barely avoided being synced down for duties. However, I ONLY did quests. Had I done my leves and guildhests as religiously as I did my quests, I probably would have been closer to 10 levels ahead of my MSQ. Or if I did my dungeons twice instead of once when I unlocked one. It's very easy to be far ahead the MSQ just by playing the game normally.

    It gives some gear, but if you are relying solely on the MSQ for gear much of it will be 5-10 levels behind most of the time - and none of it will be HQ gear. This for the earlier parts of the game, once you enter Ishgard the MSQ rewards will be better.

    Next time just leave and take 30mim at the very beginning. SE will fill your slot by a mentor... ^^;

    Which honestly is a flawed system. I actually got a mentor tank while leveling an alt healer in Toto-rak. He literally had no idea what he was doing and if I casted even one healing spell, I'd pull everything off of him (assuming dps didn't do anything either.)

    If that's what would end up as the replacement, then it's still doomed.

    I have doubts the LNC was struggling ("didn't bother dodging" was stated). OP did say they had low level gear and an even worse weapon. This just tells me this player was not even trying to play the game. MSQ gives you items and gil. If you need to upgrade your gear, buy something from the gear vendors (or if cheaper, MB). The fact they were also still a LNC further shows they're not trying to pay attention (after levelling two alts because I'm a masochist, I noticed the game now tells you to go see your Class Quest giver at every five levels).

    OP definitely could have worded their post better, but this LNC is far from being spared from criticism.

    Other people: "Where is the social interactions in the game? It's just not social enough!"
    New Player: "Where is X? How do I do X?"
    Other People: "Just google it already, stop making me communicate to you, and have someone else do it for me, since they made websites about it outside of the game!"

    I remember the good ol' days of FFXI, when so many ppl on PS2, couldnt easily look up info, and we actually talked about it, and it started conversations about the subject, and then other topics branched off from it.

    Same thing when older players remind everyone that MMOs are multiplayer when someone wishes they could solo something, but then expect new players to learn about the game by themselves before coming to the party... It's a similar mindset to people who ragequit new/difficult content after 1-2 wipes because they're hoping to get a different group with players who've already cleared the content, which only slows down how quickly the community in general becomes experienced with the content. Learning, and helping your fellow player learn, are part of the MMO genre in general.

    In FFXI, when people complained about sitting around LFG all day, the reply was often "Then start your own party, don't just wait to get invited!". Well, if you're sick of having to interact with new players who perhaps have more faith in the developers of the game they're playing, then start your own PF party!

    From how OP worded it, it doesn't sound like the LNC asked for help or anything (so that pretty much makes your script collapse on itself). They just said "first time" at some point during/after the Chimera fight, which is usually the worst time to teach anyone how to anything. I also get the feeling the LNC probably wouldn't listen to given advice anyway, since they didn't seem to try to avoid 'basic AoEs.'

    We are only hearing one side of the story. Granted we can only go off of the information given, but that doesn't mean to remain complacent with the fact that we don't know all the facts. We all know that DF really stands for "derp finder", but a lot of the community has been coaxed to believe that; to see a poorly equipped and skilled player and quickly assume they are just garbage. This needs to go away if the community as a whole is to improve.

    My FC chat is filled with one player informing another player about something they weren't aware of, or haven't fully grasped. Some of these things many people would consider "obvious". One instance I had with a player who should have his soul stone equipped, I simply asked him if he had done his lv 30 job quest, and he in fact did have his stone. So when I asked why he had not equipped it his response was that he thought it was really bad that the stone made him lose half of his cross skills. He was totally unaware that those cross skills are traded for job specific abilities and a significant increase in stats. He put it on, and good to go. I walked away from the instance knowing that this player now knows exactly what those stones do.

    I believe we should always try to help even the bad players. Crappy gear and skill doesn't necessarily mean the player is a lazy jerk, which would been labeled easily for the player I just described above. Lack of knowledge doesn't make them that way either. Those jerk players that are just poison... they show their true colors VERY quickly.
