Even if rewards in raids were adjusted to be satisfactory for raiders, we'd still have the larger problem of most people not being interested in hardcore raids
It would at least keep raiders in game and make some new people consider raiding, it's a start. If it doesn't hurt anyone, why not do this?

if you put the best gear in a raid it hurts everyone who doesn't raid. the most you are currently going to get is your 5 ilvls on your weapon. maybe if you got enough people to back up the idea of screwing over everyone who doesn't raid to make it worth risking losing anyone from that game change you may get it eventually.

(other stuff like mounts and such wouldn't be much of a problem) but gear is a big part of why people play.

I find it very confusing because any MMO I have played I never see people complain about them not having access to raid level gear when they don't raid. You say its screwing people over but how? If your not raiding then you don't need the highest item level in the game. You don't see people complaining in WoW saying "oh i don't raid but i want mythic gear". They won't give it because players who don't raid and only do LFR (in this case for FFXIV 24 mans and primals maybe) don't need it and they always keep them behind to keep raiding appealing in some form of way.

Then people say on the FFXIV forums that those who want raiding to always be top ilvl elitist or entitled or how they want to be a special snowflake which I find just very strange.

Now that there is normal mode people don't need to do savage and the raid has lost its appeal to people because people can do normal mode and the gear looks exactly the same. People find different things fun. Some enjoy raiding for the loot and some enjoy it for challenge or even both. You can't say they were not having fun purely because they stopped because loot was bad because maybe they enjoy getting amazing epic loot from raids.

But the "epic loot" is still possible. It was still the highest ilvl obtainable all through 3.2 and the weapon in A8S is still generally better than anything else you can get. Alex offers the same reward structure as Coil. Raiders lost nothing. If people do normal and say "good enough" they probably didn't enjoy raiding, they just wanted to see the story. Alex normal is a good thing for that reason. It makes it so people don't have to do something they don't enjoy but are able to see things they do, e.g story.

Raiders lost nothing with Alex normal. Everyone else gained something with Alex normal. The reason Alex Savage is failing is simply because people aren't enjoying it. Savage mode dug its own grave.
