2016 Census

Was watching State of the Realm and thought people should see some of the information that was gathered. This data is based on Story Progression, Alexander Savage Progression and Yokai Watch. This information was gathered through achievements and minions.

This information isn't official but its nice to look at it.

This post explains it pretty well.

To be a bit more thorough on the way that the person gathers the info (if it is the same person who has done the last few and using the same method) it is done by scraping the lodestone with 2 passes.

Active is determined to be any CHARACTER (as it is impossible to determine account association at this time) above level 10 that has had any change at all to their lodestone profile between the previous unofficial census and either of the 2 passes through the PUBLICLY available lodestone data. This includes any new minions , mounts, a change of job, any gain of levels, any new achievments, or even a single change in gear. So in order to be listed as inactive you need to have not done anything at all since April (the last time they did this) making it a fairly accuracte gauge for the number of active characters. Keep in mind that this means that if someone were to have multiple characters that they are active on this would count as more than 1 therefor the active subs are less than the total of active characters (though I would say probably less than 10% of people have played actively on 2+ chracters so it should be within negligible amounts)

So, where are those 5 millions accounts registered / 2.7 millions playing game / 700k active players?

Looks like doomsayers were right after all, the game is dead.

Well, for what it's worth, I haven't completed the 3.0 story yet, nor hwve my wife or son. I'm sure we are not alone.

Why? Because not everyone is interested in endgame that makes the game dead too? Or story? Or doing <insertxxxxcontent here>? **snip**
Hell, I dislike PvP and raiding, yet does that mean my sub is not to be countered in this? Because your arguement pretty much says because I don't do endgame it's therefore not important.

Thank you for posting this, you did it better than I could, i am completely uninterested in end-game, but my sub has been active since ARR launched and I logon almost daily. At least I know that SE values me, even if the end-game people do not.

I just said in the OP. They were gathered through Minions and Achievements because most of the story quests end with you getting a minion/achievement so counted how many had that minion. Alexander Savage gives you a minion so it counts how many have the minion same with Yokai Watch.

Yeah, like on famfrit we have 2 people that cleared on other servers and 1 group which has cleared (this is their 3rd week now) so eventually we'll have 10 here as long as they don't leave.

I have noticed after 3.2 a lot of people stopped playing here and now after 3.3 PF is almost completely dead. It is so bad that everyone but me has quit my FC and either stopped playing or left the server so now I am going to do the same and transfer off. It's pretty disappointing.

Wow, yeah, you are completely correct. That make it even worse that last patch cycle's content has only been cleared by under 4% of people in all servers.

One thing to keep in mind, is that A4S in gordias is a total and complete joke of a raid floor and you can be half asleep and still clear it now with echo + ilvl boost so the gordias numbers are probably a bit inflated.

Raiding fails because players don't want to join a static imo... We need to be able to join those fights without being in a static, Raid finder was a good idea but nobody uses it.. i hope a datacenter-wide party finder function will help once its implemented

It is very hard to find raid members on my server at least. My old raid group could not get a last member for 2 months so I quit and I know another group with the same problem.

Every single one of these surveys has shown a surprisingly low number of people who've actually finished the most recently storyline missions. That's not a good indicator at all of active players (which, like you, I honestly find surprising).

I've followed each of these though, and this certainly isn't a new thing.

EDIT: This survey puts the active playerbase right around 500k, which sounds about right given how late we are in 3.x's cycle. Seems down slightly from where we were before HW, but not by much.
