Not sure how that's possible unless players had access to other players armoury chests? How would anyone know what gear you had?
Anyway, that's besides the point, my point is that people still cared about aesthetics long before the glamour system was implemented.
I have noticed this as well. The simple fact is it seems most people in this game just wanna play dress-up than do meaningful content which has substance. Makes me kinda sad too be honest because this game could be so much more but they just keep dedicating so much to these feature. Have you seen the promotional site? It just mainly full of fluff content. They don't even acknowledge that raids are even in the game only dungeons and primals. My point exactly. o/The OP isn't referencing raiding specifically, or even difficult content. They are asking for more content in general rather than a long list of glamour and minions and a couple of gimmicky pieces of content (all while actual raids and dungeons become stale and less innovative). In the trailers I have noticed that more and more of it is dedicated to new glamour, new hairstyles, new emotes, and that could eventually become an issue.

Let's take us back to the time when glamour didn't exist. This is how it worked:
You would enter an instance with a minimal item level of say 90 for example, than examine their gear; and if they're wearing a level 1 bikini and panties, you know that they had the gear to enter the instance with, but swapped gear after entering. This is where it would be griefing. So yes it's possible and it did happen. This stopped being an issue when they implemented the glamour system.
I was referring to someone having a full set of IL 70 armour, and then getting an IL 80 headpiece, but still wearing the IL 70 one because it matched the set.
Wearing an IL 1 bikini for a dungeon is excessive and ridiculous, I've never seen anyone do that before.
That still happens today actually. Most often with SCHs believing to much into their crit gear. They'll be using gear to enter an instance with, one that requires a high item level. Than they'll swap back to a lower piece of gear because it has crit. Different situation, but ultimately same problem.
I personally feel that is a bit of both tbh. dev are listening to the community but for trying to please everyone they going backwards ignoring/neglecting what really matters. I enjoyed doing Titan ex ifrit Ex garuda ex after that kinda primal and raid side of the game went down.
I just would like to see more combat in this game. I don't mind glamour stuff but it seems lately that we are paying for cosmetic stuff rather than actual combat which is the essence of a Final Fantasy game.
It looks like minions glam housing stuff have taken priority in this game than Crafting dungeons primals or raiding.
Actually, retainers are faster to farm most of crafting materials. The 1st few weeks of heavensward were a complete nightmare to get chimera mane since you'd have 10 or more people competing for the spawns as each felt needs 5 manes, they're only cheap right now because retainers can bring you 10/hr when if you were farming with that kind of competitively you could only dream to get a third of that in a hour. The reason you can purchase HQ crafting materials via the Market Board is because someone took the time to go out and kill bunches of those 'no other purpose' mobs. It doesn't matter if they're from ARR or HW, without all of those mobs running around, there would be fewer of the HQ materials that crafters rely on. That's their intended purpose outside of kill quests.
True, my point was just that glamours were still important to people a long time ago to the extent of doing this ^^That still happens today actually. Most often with SCHs believing to much into their crit gear. They'll be using gear to enter an instance with, one that requires a high item level. Than they'll swap back to a lower piece of gear because it has crit. Different situation, but ultimately same problem.
