Um...that honestly doesn't explain Cloud or Sephiroth tbh lol. They dont ever really die, just continuously cross into other realms, as has been seen in Kingdom Hearts, forever fighting each other. Or how would you explain them being in KH3? But they're most likely saving something like that for whatever cross promotion for VII next year.

It was established in the KH series that the FF characters you meet in the game are not the same ones from their respective game. Only their likeliness and personality are used. They do not use their exact same background. In KH, Sephiroth is the darkness in Cloud manifested in physical form. Squall(Leon), Aeris, Yuffie, and Cid were all from Radiant Garden, but after their home was destroyed and renamed Hollow Bastion, they form a group in Traverse Town and ally themselves with Sora in hoping to reclaim Hollow Bastion back and restore it.

Basically, KH is completely non-canon to the FF universe. FFXIV does follow the rules of FF's universe.

On a more serious note, I highly doubt the VII 'issue' is resolved since the title is getting remade next year. Realistically, it would be a loss of too much money just to adhere to "lore," especially since they are continuously making it known that VII will be remade and not just remastered, which is a pretty big difference.

I thought it was just ginna be a remaster, not a brand new game.

Realistically, it would be a loss of too much money just to adhere to "lore," especially since they are continuously making it known that VII will be remade and not just remastered, which is a pretty big difference.

Remake doesn't always mean the story gets a total rewrite. Sure, they'll probably add and change some things here and there to tidy things up since the original FF7 story isn't exactly flawless, but I would not expect major changes. Areith will still die. Sephiroth will still troll Cloud till the finale where they duke it out.

If you haven't done the quest yet, they found a way to make it work. Putting in previous villains just to fill the quota without any real meaning is pointless and soulless. Yo-kai watch they were able to integrate through the minion system and Gold Saucer.

If you shoehorn Kefka, you need to give a reason why he is back from the dead and how he somehow made it to Eorzea. Lightning and Shantotto make sense due to their ability to travel to realms. There is nothing in FFVI that could imply that there is something that could revive Kefka and give him inter dimensional powers without going back to FFVI itself and establishing it.

I don't see a way around it unless you make it feel forced. If there is any way you could possibly make it clever enough is have the Wandering Minstrel sing tales of previous FF's, which would not make much sense in the lore itself.

Also as someone said, crossovers are fine once in a while, but FFXIV should focus on making it's own memorable monsters/villains that people in FF17 Online will demand to want in the game.
