Sephiroth is already able to cross dimensions, why can't we fight him? Could in Kingdom Hearts. Probably would get a lot of people resubbing if we could get his outfit and DRKs get his sword.

Because Yoshi already stated a long time ago that 'characters whose stories are complete in their respective games', or 'characters who become deceased in their respective games' will not appear in FFXIV in any form. This is why Lightning appeared in a crossover (her story was being continued in Lightning Returns which the event was cross-promotion for), but why Sephiroth, Cloud, Squall, Kefka or any other FF protagonist or antagonist will not be appearing in FFXIV in the same way I'm sorry to say:

· We will not use characters that are already dead or whose role has ended in their title

For example, “Red XIII” who appeared in FFVII.
I believe we mentioned “Red XIV” as a joke before, but Red XIII has a very rare and specific role in the world of FFVII. If he was wandering around the world of Eorzea it would destroy the image of the world of FFVII, so this can’t happen.

This is just a simple example of what we mean.

So yeah, that's pretty conclusive why. Really, Regula van Hydrus is clearly a vague less unhinged expy of Kefka anyway (note that he's the Legatus of the VIth Imperial Garlean Legion, just like Sephiroth expy Nael van Darnus was the Legatus of the VIIth Legion), so it seems SE are going to have subtle references to past FF villains as the commanding Legatee of the Garlean army. But I digress...

That's because Kingdom Hearts doesn't follow the same principle FFXIV does pretty much.

You know that time travel thing AlphaFox mentioned? Its pretty much like that. The Kingdom Hearts games are in a continuity divorced from post Disney Movies and all FF titles, to the point where the FF characters are only in either newly constructed worlds not based on their games or Olympus Coliseum. Meanwhile in VIII's continuity, Cloud has already vanquished his inner Demons as per Advent Children and the process has Sephiroth die twice.

The best we coul hope for in this case would be an XV event, maybe another XI event (thought Rapshodies likely put that off limits), Legarti (Nael and Regula) with vague similarity an characters that although named after and having the general appearance of past FF characters, have their role and back-story changed to varying extents (See: Krile)

I wouldn't take what is nothing more than a spinoff which completely handwaves the appearance of FF characters in it as canon to the FF series, because it isn't canon at all. It's like saying the Star Wars Christmas Special is canon simply because Boba Fett appeared in it.

Yoshi made it quite clear why Sephiroth and Cloud will not be appearing - Sephiroth is dead and the whole FFVII Compilation is now complete so that well and truly fits into the definition of what Yoshi mentioned about "whose role ended in their title". Argue and rationalize it all you like, Yoshi stated it pretty conclusively it won't be happening (after all, we got Cloud's Advent Children attire as a Veteran Reward and not through some crossover quest, so yeah, that's pretty much the nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned).

It was established in the KH series that the FF characters you meet in the game are not the same ones from their respective game. Only their likeliness and personality are used. They do not use their exact same background. In KH, Sephiroth is the darkness in Cloud manifested in physical form. Squall(Leon), Aeris, Yuffie, and Cid were all from Radiant Garden, but after their home was destroyed and renamed Hollow Bastion, they form a group in Traverse Town and ally themselves with Sora in hoping to reclaim Hollow Bastion back and restore it.

Basically, KH is completely non-canon to the FF universe. FFXIV does follow the rules of FF's universe.

But her role was fullfilled in her original game. Now what about Krile? FFXIV's Krile has nothing in common with her original counterpart (save for the sharp mouth and wit) - and not only her, but the Baldesion family, Val Isle and even Galuf himself gets referenced. Isn't that introducing "characters that are already dead or whose role has ended in their title"?
