It's the difference between looking for a seller and looking for a buyer. Ppl who do as you say are no better than MB sellers, but actually looking for others with a set price already mentioned has always been successful for me. I tell them how much I'll pay and see what turns up.

Adding them to the Mogstation seems a fair solution to me. They'll remain in the game for the event, and for those who don't want to wait, but do have the cash, they can just buy them off the station. If they don't become Market Board Prohibited, an influx of trees from the Station would even drive down the prices to more reasonable ranges for those who don't want to wait for the event, or spend RL money on them.
If they don't become market prohibited it would be a prime example of P2W, effectively converting real world money into gil via buying and selling these trees. If they did put it on MogStation it would/should be market prohibited and untradable.

I didn't realize these trees were removable without being destroyed.

Wouldn't really be P2W cause people would just undercut like they do everything else and tree wouldn't be worth much anymore. Only reason the price is high now is cause people can charge such a high price for them being such a limited item.

They absolutely are. I just recently moved one from my personal home to my FC house. Same for items bought on the Mogstation.
Undercutting wouldn't make it any less P2W, though. You're still trading an item spent with IRL currency for in-game currency, which can be used to purchase runs to obtain better gear.

They can't go mogstation. They're sellable, so they'd either have to change that infuriating those selling them right now or it'd just become a massive RMT vehicle.

They could make the Mogstation ones Market Board Prohibited, like the other furnishing in the MS, and leave the ones currently in game as they are, like the dyes.

True. I wasn't saying otherwise. People currently do this now with the furnishings on Mogstation. The above option would just eliminate direct MB RMT, while allowing those currently in game to continue to sell.
Edit:: That does, however, break ToS. So, like selling houses/MS furnishings, people would need to get crafty to sell the Trees, as PF adverts would be reportable.
