To a new player all story is relevant. But it seems they have learned from 2.0 about fetch/filler quests, look at patch 3.1-3.3 the MSQs have been very short with more cutscenes. They have also had less things locked to the MSQs and have put them in side quest chains.Because MMOs are a genre made to be played with friends, and the story is a solo experience that is 90% filler to begin with.
It's already kinda ridiculous the amount of story you have to get through to get to the relevant content atm. Don't get me wrong, it's a good story (from leviathan onward...) but there's too much filler and pointless stuff.
