This is a bit of a matter of contention for me. I don't have a problem with people who play the Job, or how the Job preforms, but there are a lot of factors about how the Job is designed and how to play it that I find very frustrating. There are things like the fact that Deliverance, and the skills connected to it, was essentially SE giving Lancer to Warrior without actually giving Lancer to them, which in turn has shown just how powerful almost unchecked stance dancing is in this game. Warriors I also find to be frustrating in pinch moments, I think of the three tanks, Warrior is the most like Astrologian when it comes to stressful situations where things have gone wrong. A Paladin can start off-healing, a Dark Knight can turtle extremely well, Warriors have Inner Beast, maybe some other self-healing, but are often out of tools by the time things start going wrong during progression fights. My issues about Warrior also stem from the increasing commonness of mechanics that require tank mitigation with few or no viable targets to Inner Beast around, and while Warrior can simply boost their health to absurd amounts and heal themselves to try to just soak the hit, I find that is often inadequate or places unnecessary stress on the healers. As a last note, and one that quite frankly makes me green with envy as a Dark Knight main, is that it seems like shortsightedness that the maximum damage rotation for Warrior involves their enmity combo being executed in full.

I wouldn't say Warrior is well designed, just that it is currently well suited for the metagame and that it serves as an example of what a tank in this game should be, rather than what they are. Likewise, there are plenty of issues I take with Paladin and Dark Knight, I just see the issues in Warrior as more significant and influential because they have become the standard that all other tanks are measured by. As I said in my prior post, I honestly don't want another tank, I want them to polish and fix the tanks we have now rather than just heaping more skills onto us that will either be increasingly more niche, or in the case of skills like Fell Cleave, Abyssal Drain, and Shelltron practically kill off their competition.

i cant agree more its why i sorta blatantly said id rather have 2 dps this next expansion that worry about healers and tanks, not saying healers and tanks dont deserve more flavors, but i feel like the roles themselves need a serious dev intervention and looking into in terms of what they can do to work on aspects of both, as a skeleton crew they work, but the refinement in heavensward seems to be to make all the jobs in a specific role be really more similar to the other two, or the new ones half of one and half of another. They really need to figure out how to make an identity for the roles before spitting out a half of this and half of that but not as good as either this or that. Bur like i said earlier if they do bring in a new tank i want it to definately have its own identity from the get go, and be able to t ank well in situations as well as be rewarding to play. I love drk but it doesnt feel like risk vs reward, it feels like risk to do well

a tank with Bind would be great, dont you think?

In no real order for 4.0:

    My old OVERPOWER animation back.
    Cool looking WAR AF
Tanking dummies similar to WOW, but w/o the glitch.
    Mage type tank.
    Dual wield tank.

    You know, I'd like a Beastmaster/Tamer as a tank.

Or a Dual Shield wielding Tank.

    A counter/reflect damage type or...
an interrupting tank. One that has more/can use more often, moves that prevent the enimy from attacking.

I'd be happy with any new tank that doesn't wield a sword. A greathammer wielding tank that deals blunt damage would be pretty cool, though. Geomancer would actually be pretty cool as well, though I'm not 100% sure if Geomancer could work well in XIV (especially as a tank).

Knock an enemy to the ground with a strong turning kick, raise a earthen spike through its head (imagine Bene animation, to opposite (intended) effect...), petrifying the dead enemy, with this petrified matter usable as some manner of additional resource. Spike lasts as a shield/enemy-only LoS while active, can be broken off and launched at enemies... Summon furious storms (Salted Earth equivalent, but movable with wind attacks), fire vuln attacks with wind, lightning vuln via soak enemies for lightning vuln, disease vuln/spread/upkeep via either, blunt resistance down via earth, physical resistence down via shattering. Heavies by mixing water and earth persisting AoEs. All effects and damage increase chance to petrify. Rasp, Choke, Drown. Earthen shields, water immunities/decoying/variable-%-mitigation, wind regeneration/delay-of-damage...

Seems like the actual mechanical systems are all there, though, yeah, probably would never happen in that sense.

What kind of tank in 4.0?

    Easy.

    Paladin - but fixed.

Failing that, I want to see an agility tank, I doubt we will because the game's stat and combat system do not seem to have been built in a way that permits enhanced agility to be useful in combat.
