Tank Etiquette Between Tanks in Raids

WARS will always easily rip hate off of any other tank. Just for comparison sake if you put all 3 tanks together in tank stance.

But ideally a PLD is more suited to MT seeing as both DRK and WAR provide better OT abilities.

Communication is key to figuring out who is MTing. If there is none, I find myself initiating MT usually but if someone battles me for MT, I'll let him have it.

I stopped tanking Void and the Towers because of long queue times and to simply avoid these tanking confrontations.

Chidarake got it. I was not actually commenting on the tactic at all, just reacting to the ever so slightly condescending statement about watching the party list, because that does not work in 24-man content.

I never meant to be condescending, I apologize if you perceived it that way. But I am curious of your definition of commenting as opposed to "reacting". But let's leave it there.

plus surely you have seen any number of times bosses turning on dps as mt dies in all 24man content and then the boss just picking people off cus the other two tanks forgot they are suppose to tank after mt dies.

With all honesty, then the other two tanks are either asleep at the wheel or just plain bad. Besides this is a highly situational example. Any proper tank would, in your example, use Provoke on the boss and take over as MT. Which is the only point I'm trying to make here. Provoke if MT dies, not before. You provoke when it is necessary. Any spot you have on the enmity list before that is irrelevant.

I don't really understand this obsession with needing to be 2nd on the enmity list. If Provoke did not exist, then I could understand why. But luckily we have Provoke, an ability meant to be used precisely for cases like this should the MT die. I don't know what else to tell you.

I also hate tanks that just immediately say "I'm MT" upon entering it just looks desperate. It's arrogant as fuck and winds me up if you are the other tank. Let's say I go "no I wanna be MT" it would be stupid so I just let them stroke their ego. What is wrong with communicating?...or if no chat then just whoever gets on it first is MT. Today on Good King Moogle this guy goes "I'm tanking the King" immediately upon enetering. I went "good for you have fun 1-2-3 boy" and everyone lol'd. I afkd the rest of the fight and received 5 commendations ><

On a boss I was MT for about 10-15 seconds and the other pld approaches and uses provoke, and then proceeds to use it every time it's up because I was just above him constantly. I never said anything and assumed he would just switch to sword oath but he did say something..."ffs nez use sword oath you're making the aggro wonky". I replied "meh you used provoke against the boss I was already main tanking when no one else was anywhere close to pulling aggro and MT wasn't dead, and you keep using it lol". he replies "you don't even know how to off tank just quit". It's not like I think he doesn't know what provoke does either. I'm pretty sure he knows exactly what it does and just wanted to do his best to push me off MT. Rest of party starts to go "grabs popcorn" etc.

That is tanking in a 24-man raids in a nutshell. When I enter, I always check who are the other tanks and their Ilvs. I follow the rules whoever get the boss first is MT unless in my dps stance I pull the boss off the mt, which I give it sometimes for MT to get it back. If the mt can't hold aggro against me in my dps stance, I'll mt the rest of the fights.....

I believe that's what communication looks like. Using "Wanna MT?" is more polite, but if you want to MT very badly, how in your opinion it should look like, to do not hurt your pride? Beg for it? :P

"I will MT if you don't mind" is also a possibility, however i suppose you would consider it desperate too?

Also, there is nothing to be proud about AFKing whole fight. Even if you didn't like the other guy, you shouldn't punish whole party for it. The fact you got commends are only becuase your comment was funny. You shoudn't get any however, mind that.

Secondly, You can't act like a jerk, when they act like that, cause you are becoming same as them. You should have switched stance upon voke and let the jerk struggle.

Other players' bad tanking is not an excuse for you to act like them, or even worse.

I think it has to do with the whole CT series being too easy. People essentially stopped caring about small things. I would only recommend sitting in dps stance and let other tanks do the work to be honest, to make this experience enjoyable.

One interesting occasion I called MT for KB in Labyrinth on my Bard as a complete joke, nobody contested for some reasons, so I pretty much had to tank it lol. And tanked it I did.

I have all 3 tanks, in any situation I MT, whatever job I use, I get aggro for 30-60 secs then turn tank stance and go dps stance and ram it in

And plox it's common for pretty much all the tanks to feel too OP for everyone, demn we are tanks, we're cool, only we exist, no tank no party.

I had a really weird run of weeping city before 3.4 that I tanked in.

I queue with FC mates since we all know what we are doing and so the wait isn't long.
No one says anything in alliance chat, pretty normally so far.
First three mobs is a giant cluster fuck, B and C tanks swapping and loosing aggro, I end up keeping 2 crocs both times they spawn.
What ever, prolly didn't look at what alliance they are in.
Every mob pull I end up tanking most of them since AoEs don't exist for B tank.
1st boss wasn't a problem, we defaulted to going under since we stopped trusting the other groups.
Waiting at face wall for slower members to catch up.
Healer from B pulls, aggro switches between 5 people rapidly and ends on my FC mate.
OH HELL NO
Pull aggro and wipe since C tank was stubborn and would let me MT leaving my FC to die during split.
B and C go ape-shit when told that they need to wait, and tank properly.
Continues all the way through joker mang.
