I tend to look at other tanks stance. If no one is on tanking stance then I switch mine, put a mark on myself and stand in front of everyone else ready to pull.

"BAAAAAARD!" - 2018

I check for stances as well and then decide if I am MT'ing or OT'ing based off of that. What annoys the hell out of me though is when someone decides to MT the first boss then just sits around on the next boss as though expecting anyone else to all without having ever said a word. If you MT the first boss then I EXPECT you to MT the rest of the dungeon unless explicitly stated otherwise. That and people who are in Tank Stance and have me assuming they want to MT but instead just stand around and therefore make ME stand around because I assume they're not going to drop it even if I switch.

I was just in a Weeping City run last night where non-tanks were pulling. I'm keen on letting those player tank it if they feel like they are impatient and pull when someone does the Ready Check or everyone haven't arrived at the room yet. The puller in question was a dps. The first time, it was forgive as a face pull. Second time, he used his abilities to pull. Of course, the boss started running all over the map, followed by someone complaining that the tanks are not doing their job.
I normally don't respond to stuff like this, but I couldn't help it, since I was there on PLD. My response being, "Well, it's also not the DPS's job to pull, either, is it?"
Eventually, I go tank stance and regain control. Of course, I die, because both healers wanted to fight using Cleric. One tank pick up the boss, and things were ok. Going to the next area, a BLM pulled. I grabbed the boss, and die again. After that, I refused to MT. It was chaotic, as no other tank would go tank stance. They were using Provoke, but were in dps stance, so the boss wasn't 100% stationary. People began to argue about the tanks being crappy players.
Group A lost their tank due to being kicked, we found out. Moving forward, things were still hectic without no one tanking. Someone said, "guess we need to kick another tank". I then said in /a "I WOULD MT, but my healers decide to compete with each other with Cleric while only tossing me a Regen." A healer from B said he will focus-target me and keep me alive to his best ability, but also noting he was new to the Raid.
He was new, but performed admirably. I couldn't Comm him or recall his name.

I like to examine other tanks to see who has the best gear, so they can take MT role. I'll initiate if I don't think anyone else is going to, but I won't try to fight with a better geared tank over who gets to play with the boss. I will use an immortality cooldown and provoke Forgall as he casts Hell Wind, though. Because no matter how good the healers are, they can't stop him from killing the MT with an auto-attack.
I didn't know that the JP servers made B tank MT every time.
Yes, its default. As long as it's 24 man, the B tank is always the MT, unless he says in Alliance chat he doesn't want to or die. Even if he dies, upon the next boss, it defaults back to the B tank as MT again.I like to examine other tanks to see who has the best gear, so they can take MT role. It's standardized so there is never any confusion. A and C will handle the mechanics.

Tank with Aggro = Everyone sees his name = COOL
