Come on now, this isn't even an issue. In 24-mans there are at least 3 tanks. So if the MT dies to the raid boss, you have 2 other OT's available. Provoke the boss, and start building your enmity combo. You shouldn't be advocating a method so fragile as provoking off of the MT while he is still alive just for the purpose of becoming 2nd on the enmity list, while also risk turning the boss around. Please don't do this. That's just bad tanking conduct.

tl:dr: Save Provoke for cases where MT dies/tank swaps. Not before.

Sometimes PLD don't get to MT, well I don't mind because the first to touch the boss is the MT. I'll just put up Sword Oath and pretend to dps, or if I'm a DRK i'll just go dps and pray that the MT don't die so I could enjoy my easy tanking break xD

This happens because the 24 man bosses barely accomodate the other 2 tanks outside of DPS. Some of us who chose to main a tank did so for the tank play style yet the 24 man's have 2 of them focus on DPS 90% of the time. Tanks fighting for hate is just a product of boredom and bad boss design.

As my PLD I always just assume I'm main tanking unless told/asked otherwise, I'm generally the one that waits till everyone is in the boss room, hits the ready check, then as soon a as I see 8/8 or at least 22/24 ready pop up I'm launching my shield directly into something's face.

If someone tries to fight me for aggro I'll go stand on them to prevent the boss from spinning like a ballerina (though it's funny to watch Cuchulain spin) and ask them if they want to MT while I continue to try to juggle aggro, and if they say yeah then I let them take over, if they say nothing then we continue the juggle till I win or the boss is dead

Tank who runs towards the boss and launchs ranged attack first is the MT, whether DRK, WAR, or LolPLD. The others should stop trying to inflate their e-dickies, man up and just 'DPS'. Amount of tanks who don't understand this is more embarrising than sad, tbh.

And what happens when the "MT" loses aggro to one of the DPSing OTs and then he continues to provoke the boss back even though he stands no chance at actually keeping aggro?

Honestly the biggest problems I have, usually, are:

    1. I pull with Unchained, get a solid hate lead, then go into Deliverance but "somehow" one of the other tanks manages to pull threat directly after or
    2. I decide to OT instead, sticking to a 3x SE opener with FCs and stuff to intentionally throttle my threat and the MT still loses hate.

So generally, I always pull, and if someone pulls off me I just let them have it. They can ride my threat lead for quite awhile so I feel confident in letting them take the wheel.

i dont think he was advocating it at all just pointing out you dont know your position in 24man for certain.
heck i dont even advocate it i was just pointing out a potential reason that people may be doing it.

and like my previous post any decent tank will be most likely either be no2 or 3 in the list regardless of using provoke or not. however in dps stance you can not guarantee it without nerfing your damage for extra enmity.
as i can virtually guarantee that as my main BLM i wil be very high up that list if not no2 in 24 man raids due to most tanks and dps not really caring to much about the effort they put in.

plus surely you have seen any number of times bosses turning on dps as mt dies in all 24man content and then the boss just picking people off cus the other two tanks forgot they are suppose to tank after mt dies.

Chidarake got it. I was not actually commenting on the tactic at all, just reacting to the ever so slightly condescending statement about watching the party list, because that does not work in 24-man content.
