Tank Etiquette Between Tanks in Raids

I witnessed a very sad thing yesterday in WoD. We got to Cloud of Darkness and the two Paladins in the other alliances basically shuffled their feet and stared at each other so the Warrior in my party pulled. The Warrior ended up dying and the boss then switched to me. I was not a paladin, though. I was a monk. There's no way in hell a monk should be higher on threat than a paladin in level 50 content even if the paladin is in sword oath. All you can do is spam rage of halone! I have no idea what those chuckleheads were doing, but hitting the boss couldn't have been very high on their priority list.
