They are not 'realistic' in any sense of the word. Realism has completely escaped them.
They are fantasy-like, that's certain. But also not really hard to pull off design wise. They didn't even try to remain consistent. Very lazy and uninspiring.
We're talking about a game where you can ride on a chicken and play as a woman with cat ears and a tail, and you're whining about a lack of realism?
And I'm sure you'd be happy as a clam if the weapons were more of the same palette-swapped stuff we've gotten thus far, right?



Since when did realistic and fantasy become synonyms? I always thought they were opposites and last time i checked i'm playing Final FANTASY. Not Final Realism....
Oh and to those of you saying it doesn't match the current style of the game, well no s$#&, they are trying to move away from the boring design people complained about. Trust me when i say that the style you saw will match very well future gear.
When did they become black-and-white? The art style in Demon's Souls is fantasy-like even though it is based on realism.
Then you have games like Mount and Blade or something like Crysis that just try to aim for strictly realism in their art.
