Right. I was just responding to what you said about wishing they had tried something. They did—it's just that new options aren't always going to work. In fact, it's more common in my MMO experience that new types of content don't work right out of the gate, especially in games with a pretty successful formula—new content has the difficult challenge of reinventing the wheel, which isn't really an easy thing to do.

Diadem would have had a much longer life span if it hadn't been improperly balanced, I'm sure. But they unfortunately (and somewhat inexplicably) didn't anticipate the zerg mentality we've always approached large group content with and wanted to make it less rewarding so as not to invalidate Gordias (Savage). That's always going to be the tricky thing about expanding endgame options—it's important to make sure there's a balance between them, so that one option doesn't become vastly superior to another. I am hopeful that future Exploratory Missions will be better put together.

I wouldn't place too much importance on what's said on these forums. Pretty much every MMO/game forum (or at least all the ones I have been to: WoW, GW2, D3 etc) have the same types of posts on them:
    - The game is dying
    - The game is dead
    - The game is rubbish / stagnant / not as good as it used to be
    - Content is too grindy
    - Content is too easy
    - Content is too hard
    - This game is discriminatory due to x reason
    - The playerbase is horrible
    - I'm quitting and you guys suck
    - x decision has killed the game
    - x company doesn't listen

I could go on, but I think you get the point.
It's hard to take any of it seriously any more. Generally, if you have an issue with a game, then by all means post about it, discuss it etc, but soooo many people make sweeping statements (everyone is fed up of x) or they assume that the forums are a valid sample of the playerbase and make assumptions/false correlations/conclusions etc (people are whining about the game therefore everyone is quitting therefore the company should pay attention to my highly insightful suggestion) based on it. Sometimes they follow it up with anecdotals from in the game as well, as if that makes a point any more valid.

Anyway, tangent over. tl;dr - all forums whine. it's what forums do.

I'd have to say that what the OP has said was probably wording what many of us feel in the best possible way that I've seen since joining these forums. I mean, I've posted...a couple a times at least you can notice from my post count. Not buttering up, just being honest. You can look at some of my other posts to see how flattering I usually am... lol

I don't have anything really to add but maybe people are so salty because it's like a bad romance. I can't think of any other time people get so salty. You want to quit it. You want to leave. But you can't, because you love the person. It sucks. I think that is the reason for the epic tears and saltiness on these forums. Our expectations are *SO* high for this game. Many of us grew up on the Final Fantasy series games. Many of us played FFXI for many years, only to try other MMOs in the interim and now we are back again. It's like FFXI was the divorce and FFXIV was the remarriage (and 1.0 was that time we tried again but we had a big fight). We want it to work this time, we really do. It's just a game though, so many people don't understand all the tears and saltiness. Maybe it would be comparable to what Micheal Bay does to his movies. All the people that remember how good the old cartoons were (TMNT, Transformers, etc) know that a cartoon made in the 80s actually had more character development in a 20 minute episode than he does in 1hr 30min++ movie. Everyone else, who never saw the cartoons is just unsympathetic. "These movies are fun, wth is wrong with you!" I mean, maybe it's just how things are monetized now. It's designed to appeal to such a wide audience and make money that way, so there really isn't anything lasting for anyone. It's easy to say "well, that is what people want now!" And it's not wrong but, when something is made for a smaller audience, and there is some "niche" there, you tend to see a more devoted audience. I mean, do you see anyone that like, wanting to make a large collection of merch from the Micheal Bay movies? It's just popcorn fare, so not really. Just look at what happened to star wars. I think that's why the new one was so well received. They just basically copied the formula for the very first one because it's like a relic that no one makes anymore. Best you can do is just copy one that worked.

Myself, I have a hard time even being serious on these forums. When no one understands how you feel, you just have to laugh and try to be happy. I think anyone can reflect on how laughter can keep things together. So, here I am, actually kind of impressed someone can approach it without getting angry or trying to be funny. It's like... I'd almost approach this with the: (can't tell if serious or - meme.gif). But I know you are serious so, I just wish more people could be. I know that for every thread like this, there will be 100s of threads of people just being salty and sand-offish and people just getting angry and there I'd be, just trying to say something dumb so they poke fun at me and maybe forget why they are angry. Probably why people tend to think I'm just serious when I say something pretty dumb. "Like, gosh, she's just dumb like everything else people are saying!" I try to make it very obvious but subtlety is something I'm bad at I guess. But humor isn't something that helps really. It would really just derail a thread that got out of hand already more than anything. So I just wish I was better at writing so I didn't resort to that.

Writing to people on the internet is so frustrating. I wish more people took it serious and calm like OP. It's easy to hop on a bandwagon or something. Find a group a people that say something you like and just agree with them without adding anything else. And people can say that I'm doing that here.... But you got a block of text out of me... That's pretty rare... lol And if this is a bandwagon, it's be like the smallest one on the forums. I'd probably have to run behind it cause there'd be no room. Having to think about why we are unhappy is unpopular, as is trying to start a actual conversation about it. It's easier to just be like "Hey, I'm mad, who's also mad with me!" Because, if just wanted some agreement, there is no shortage of people who are mad. Heaven forbid people talk and realize they aren't actually mad about the same things.

But where does it go from here though? I'd love to talk more about it. Though, maybe I said too much... lol.

Of course this game could use a lot of stuff added in. However, myself and my friends / FC (legacy players) are all having a blast with the game still. I'd love to see lots of QoL, fixes to diadem (and we will), interesting stats, etc..however, for now it is still a great and fun game.

And yea, all forums do is complain...that was the intent of this one afaik. Yoshida said he wanted a forum so people could share things they want to see, what they do/dont like, and so forth. I tend to ignore most of the really negative/trollish ones..which is majority lately heh.

Haha! I gotta admit, your post was funny, the whole FFXI vs FF14 is like the divorce then remarriage XD. Couldn't say it any better honestly .
Yeah I'm trying my best to be calm. I've noticed some people are angry at me, because I disagree with them. I might be wrong, but suddenly I see a post about people enjoying the game, which is completely fine, but I also think that thread was somewhat aimed to me, because many here thinks I'm a cry baby. Majority here doesn't know how much time I've spent, how many people I've helped. Yet they judge me because of a post. I post it, because I've seen too many threads about this 'issue'' recently, wanted to post and see peoples reaction. As people mentioned, many can be salty, grumpy or whatever, but hey... This it the internet and a forum, you can't expect anything else, a very few of us post serious. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...e_santa_clauz/ If you check this link out, this is something I did for many people over 3-4 days! If I didn't care for the community, I wouldn't do this. This thread is simply about how I feel and many others. I'm okay that people disagree with me, however, saying I cry like a baby is a bit too much, but it doesn't bother me at all. I think most people will regret saying so after they have a talk with me :P. Thanks for your nice post anyways, appreciate it! Specially the laugh!

Ah, sorry... I did the edit thing too... lol. I tweaked grammar and just added a bit more. :P

I'll quit editing though. It's so easy to add anyone paragraph. :x

That santa thing is really cool! I'm someone that knows the kind of dedication involved to acquire that kind of money (though, I haven't ever worked at it for that kind of time to do anything like that). Wow...

Diadem is just this expansion's version of hunts. (I know they added generic hunts to the expansion zones) it's a way for them to quickly disseminate top-end gear to players in preparation of the next raid tier. No one enjoys them. They just do it for the top gear at the moment.

I have to say, while I do not agree with many of the points the OP made (I think I made my stance on the mentioned topics clear already ), I'm really amazed and positively surprised by how calm he approaches the discussion and how you can actually argue with him, or how he tries to understand other people's viewpoint. It's rare on the internet, even more rare in game forums, and I really apprechiate it ^-^

Hah! Stop making me blush XD.
I'm here to see other people's view point. What I'm saying is an opinion, and people have different ones. Some agrees with me some doesn't which is completely fine, because if everyone was going to agree with me, it wouldn't be exciting and too blend to even start a conversion, no? I've seen your opinions, same with other's and there's is alot of truth in them, yes I didn't agree completely to everything that has been said, but most of it yes. Yes people do content to have fun and not for the gear, that's why you also see people do raids and finish it then vanish until new raids comes, a lot of those people are my friends. Problem is, I'd love them to stick around for some more, I was only purely sticking out for a while to help my fc, because I'm the owner/leader of one, among with one of the biggest hunt LS's and social LS's on the server. I want people to stick around, do thing's that they feel is worthwhile, some doesn't feel excactly everything is worthwhile the grind, because it won't be lasting too long, which is one of my biggest opinions on how the game currently is, some people, like in this thread mentioned they don't give a damn and just do it for fun, which is great! You do stuff for fun and forget about the reward. Then my opinion is that you play an MMO, which you put time and yes sometimes your own soul into! And you work so hard for get gear, vanity and weapons and then you find out for all this time you grinded, it wasn't lasting long as you wanted to. I don't really mind people getting gears or ''rare'' items after I get mine, because crafting is a good example, I think. Those who start early gets shitload of money, while the late crafter people will mostlikely not get as much. That's why I think SE invented the specalist craft, so rich people couldn't craft everything so easy, while now they are currently blocked out a bit, compare to pre HW. Myself made alot of money during the beginning of HW, gear that cost 50-100k now, used to be sold for 2-3 million gil! So the fact people eventually get at that stage I used to be at is not an issue. However a bit more exlusivity in terms of vanity or some gear would been awesome! So not everyone looks the same, or it's becoming too blend imo, is what I think. The thavarian bustier was a good example, many wanted it because it looks good, a few people only had it and many was envy and always said; wow that looks sooo good, wish I had one, time to farm maps then! Which I did and many others did as well. I think it's a bit healty that people can work for somethign and say this is awesome, not alot of people achived this, this looks great. I wish I could say this about savage gear, but good god it's ugly, and we all know it XD.

Edit: UGh it logged me out for some stupid reason? Is there a stupid timer on how long you can be logged in? XD

Yes a lot of time and money. Did this for 3-4 days because it was fun and best part a lot of people got what they wanted, vanity, weapons, help in thordan, houses etc. Just because I somewhat disagree how the game is updating, in therms of content, weekly cap etc is, doesn't mean I will avoid and ignore people in it, the joy of giving is better than taking . I think most people keep forgetting the most thing and what Yoshida said, if you don't have fun, you are doing it wrong. For me, I had nothing to do, so I unsubbed since 3 weeks ago almost. Since I had no fun, I was apperently doing it wrong, so I left instead for a while . However people can have fun on the things I didn't have fun at the end, which I can clearly see, because I once used to have fun doing it as well.
