Simple answer... Tank wear STR gear and don't be in tank stance for more Dps , healer heal and Dps in cleric stance for more Dps... Dps... Oh never mind 2 people are already doing the job the ACTUAL Dps should be doing. People will be lazy AS long as you permit them to be. Considering you can spend 3min grinding fates for an i200 relic. The best way to deal with situations like the OP had is... Drop pt do some fates to cool off and re que after 30 min. Easy peachy.

Nope. I refuse to be embarrassed for poor performance in a video game. Life is too short for that kind of BS.

I mean, that's an OK attitude, but the reference had nothing to do with your in-game performance

In LFG in WoW? Hardly. I actually tend to find FF14 dps tend to be more proactive than WoW dps simply because mechanically FF14 is much more demanding on dps in non raid settings. There are a lot of encounters in FF14 that if the dps don't do their job you wipe. That is almost non existent in WoW.

Infact in WoW parsers have the opposite effect. DPS are so focused on maxing their parser numbers they ignore mechanics so they can try to pump out higher numbers, usually resulting in the healers and tanks having to compensate for DPS getting tunnel vision and not doing their jobs. Plus when you criticize them for ignoring the mechanics they link their parser dps to show how leet they are and how you don't know what your talking about.

One thing you can say for the lack of parsers is their is generally less epeen being waved around and people aren't mistaking high numbers for actually being good at playing.

Actually yes. Most of the playerbase had it downloaded.

Recount has been among the top 3 most downloaded addons from curse client for over 8 years.
    I had it.
All of my friends had it.
    Entire guilds had it.
Any random player that knew of the curse website had it.
If your dps sucked, everyone will know, which also bred competition, and drive to do more damage than your piers. A drive that's nearly non-existent partially because of the fear of being banned for violation of ToS

Yes, meters may be used as a tool to antagonize players, or create habits like tunnel visioning, and greed, but at least the fact that your damage compared to everyone else's is right there for all to see. You'd want to not suck at your class, or else you'd be the butt of jokes. But guess what? People were motivated to do better because of it!

And the fact of the matter is that if your dps sucks in FFXIV, we know. We just can't say it out loud.

Doing good DPS in FFXIV is actually harder then a lot of other mmo mainly due to the game not having an offical addon api. If FFXIV ever gets offical addons dpsing will become much easier. Anyone who did play wow can tell you that dps was so easy due to the number of addons people made for it. From things that tracked buffs/debuffs/procs, to rotation helpers which tell you what buttons you should be pressing.

It's a shame the things we give up for convenience no?

The developers inherently whether they want to or not promote this kind of behavior part in parcel to how the duty finder itself works. If players had to deal with the social repercussions of being utterly terrible at their job as a DPS/Healer/Tank the amount of people who just don't care would be down dramatically.

The drive-by nature of the duty finder lets people get away with not doing their job because other than the odd dismissal they don't get any blowback at all and because there are no punishments for their character they can repeat this cycle ad-neasuem. If the game required you to group up with others by making a party like the party finder then you know you are accountable for your actions (Socially at least).

The same could be turned around as well though, some people run into the duty finder expecting everyone to be knowledgeable about every detail of a dungeon and every intricacy of their job.

People in general expect far too much from random grouping.

But aren't the level 60 dungeons exactly what the game and the people are expecting from you - Doing a acceptable performance?
Sure, 'doing them for fun' is fine. But usually you do them 'for fun' only once, for the sake of MSQ progress.

Gardening is 'fun', decorating your home is 'fun', glamoring is 'fun' to some extent. No one will call you out on that.

But if you start doing the dungeons/roulettes for the sake of loot/gear/tomes, aka progress, you better put your back in it.
