So because you are capable of pulling with both RNG and BRD in XI, that makes the jobs similar?

Sorry but no. The reason it's such a stretch is because Archer and Bard are completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Everything else regardig the jobs makes sense. LNC to DRG. PGL to MNK. Etc. Archer to Bard makes zero sense. It's wielding 2 completely different things that are wildly unrelated, which is part of the reason that weapon looks so ridiculous. It's also mixing 2 roles that a lot of players are going to dislike having mixed. If their goal is to be a support class, aka Bard, 99% of players are going to be uninterested at best in playing Archer.

And beyond all that... it's just a dumb and lazy idea, dude. They're obviously trying to squeeze a job into a class where it doesn't belong because the Armoury system is so rigid.

Plus, what other weapons are we going to see for a "barcher?" A bowcarina? A pianbow? A blute? Or is it only gonna be harp-bows?

    It's just silly.
No, just because a job can pull not make it the same, I agree with that. However, since the playerbase clearly placed the Bard job in FFXI in the pulling role, and archer is realistically the only class we have in FFXIV that is a clear pulling job, it made sense to me that SE might have thought the two would go well together. And who says Archer is suddenly a support class just because it might unlock the Bard class?

Also, claiming that 99% of the players will be uninterested in playing ARC if is tied to BRD is quite a broad statement and one not based on facts. This heated debate is clearly very much in two camps - those players for and those who are against the idea. Plenty of players who currently play ARC will be OK with the class being tied to the Bard job.

If they had asked me, I would have preferred to see Corsair, Musketeer, or even Thief tied to ARC instead of BRD, even though I loved playing as a bard in XI.

Oh and for the record, I am not a dude.

Bard became a pulling class in XI out of necessity because most of the time in a camp, it was better for the other members of the party to be there when a mob arrived. They didn't make it a pulling job because it was designed to be. Also, the necessity of pulling was much more extreme in XI than it is in XIV, and by the way, any job can pull in XIV with Smoothed Stones or any number of ranged abilities which are far more common than in XI.

Also, using the argument that both jobs were capable of pulling in XI as the reason they could go together, amounts to FAR less than the multitude of reasons it's stupid for them to go together.

I will concede that 99% might be a little high of an estimate. But I would still strongly argue that the vast majority of players who say "I would love to play Bard" will not also say "I would love to play Archer." Again, they are complete opposite ends of the spectrum for what play style one wants to have.

If they had asked me, I would have preferred to see Corsair, Musketeer, or even Thief tied to ARC instead of BRD, even though I loved playing as a bard in XI.
Aaaaaaand here we reveal the real issue with what they have done. The way you feel, is the way most people are going to feel. Sure, they might be OK with Bard being tied to Archer. But, they would have preferred it be any number of other things, which makes what they have done a poor choice.

Oh and for the record, I am not a dude.
    Apologies, dudette.(presumably)
