I was there (MCH) and it was the most ridiculous run of Ultima I've ever done. I've done it multiple times as a SCH (different account) so it was kind of new-ish going in as DPS. I did everything I could to make life easier for everyone (taking as little damage as possible, and swapping Turret Promotions) but in the end when you have a terribad SCH (I still doubt it was internet since he was walking everywhere, not lag-running, walking) a super troll of a tank and a DPS who AoE'd the boss and was equipped with a level 49 grey bow, there is only so much you can do.

Oh well, I had fun and we are going to have to try again soon.

So, with the new relic quests and all, running Alex has been a bit of a nightmare for me because everyone and their moms think they can speedrun it without a care for mechanics.

I was in a1 with a friend who went as a warrior. Cue dungeon start, EVERYONE runs off, leaving me, my friend and the other healer standing there for a few moments like idiots. We sprint after the group and we barely made it to Faust before the lock kicked in. Went like a breeze, wasn't so bad. Cue Oppressor time.


Holy hell, I've never seen more players stand IN aoes than this run. Yes, we were burning Oppressor down, but damn, the amount of heals we had to throw out was stupid. No one bothered about alarums & missiles either, so we had to heal through the blasts. Apparently that's the way farm parties do it, so they claim. My friend was told to tank the 2nd oppressor TOGETHER with the first, and the JA player said "it's how we farm it". Okaaaay. Of course we wipe, respawn, restart and the next thing we know, a vote dismiss had commenced for my friend. Vote dismiss was successful, he was booted, the WHM left, DPSes began to leave and I left too.

We queued for another a1, got through it more successfully. The horror of it was meeting most of that JA group again in a2, although we didn't have a horror wipe.

a4 was a bit of a mess, with a BLM deciding she'd suck up all of the exploding balls. Yeah, that didn't go so well for her, but folks were mostly following mechanics, so it wasn't as much of a nightmare as a1 had been.

Funny, I don't think most of my Alex runs was that bad (then again i was a DPS and msot of them were DF runs) but I don't think even speedruns as supposed to ignore the alarms when the missiles were coming (In fact that usually led to the wipes in the groups I was in, again mostly DF runs), You might had run in with a group that was too impatient.

Farm groups will indeed have you tank the two Oppressors together. The thing is, farm groups are also burning it to under 20% before it even splits. You don't really ignore mechanics, they just never happen. You really can't expect that in Duty Finder though.

I thought they were impatient at first but an FC mate later told us that it was how anima farmers run alex. Crickey.

Farm groups will indeed have you tank the two Oppressors together. The thing is, farm groups are also burning it to under 20% before it even splits. You don't really ignore mechanics, they just never happen. You really can't expect that in Duty Finder though.

I now know it's the infamous anima relic farm lol. I do remember the 1st oppressor got fairly low (I think around 25?) before the 2nd one popped. I don't know if missile mechanic was supposed to appear, but it did and the resulting explosion wiped everyone.

Now that I know the reason behind this speed running, I think I'm more pissed that people were imposing farm mentality on parties in DF and kicking them when they don't perform up to par. Isn't that what PF is for?

Ran into somebody like that when doing sohm al while leveling WHM, I was like "lol nice bow" (darklight ilvl 55) and my friend asked if they had any better gear. They left and after the dungeon I went to do other things and my friend started it again and they re-queued with the same person but they had better equipment that time sometimes good things do happen lol.

Did the missiles kill you, or did they derp and not kill the second opressor in time? The adds will actually despawn if the second opressor comes out late enough. Still a risky move in DF though.

You're not wrong here, and it is becoming a huge problem in the community. I've run into it several times. It's become common practice for people to run off without buffs. Speed pull (even if they can't handle it), or generally act like raging assholes. A lot of the time, the "speedy" way of doing it just makes things worse, and for some strange reason a lot of people don't seem to realize that even one wipe results in a slower clear time than just doing it the traditional way.

SE is partly to blame for this, because they made a system that has multiple ways of succeeding but only one (quite clearly) faster way of succeeding, and yet they somehow expected everyone to not spam it and turn it into the most toxic environment in the game (they've even publicly reminded people that there are other ways of getting the items during the live letter... as if that would make a difference or change that Alex farming is by far the fastest method). I'm not sure if that makes them short sighted, sadistic, or just plain stu .... silly, but it's definitely had some really horrible results.

I actually have my fair share of Tanking horror stories that have come out since the Relic was implemented (one in particular that sticks out in my mind), but I'll leave that for if someone does a thread like this over on the Tank forums.

I actually solve this issue pretty easily. One runs off before waiting for my buff, then he casts it himself. Our buffs were "shared" to every job a few patches ago after all. If the runner is a dps who tries to pull before the tank, I have no regret letting him die.
