Soooo. This is kind of a long one. It involves Ultima's Ballad, which I was running to help my brothers clear it.
Alright, first off we get a bunch of other new people to the fight. Whatever, no big deal. First pull the tanks don't hold hate at all. NIN becomes paper tank... We wipe obviously. Okay.. Next pull. Same thing except I'm now MT. We ask the tanks to hold hate (the PLD was in SwO so we assumed WAR was MT before first tank swap). After another wipe we start get a little suspicious of the tanks. They don't hold hate at all, and then one started to pull with Provoke. I questioned that, no answer. I end up tanking the boss for like 2 more wipes and I start to wonder if I should even do anything. One of my brothers told me to maybe not use Medica II, which I considered because it pulled so much enmity when I used it (though I didn't even use it that often). Same brother eventually asked the PLD to use ShO since the WAR was obviously doing a bad job of MTing. The PLD does, and actually holds hate! So I start to really get suspicious of the WAR. And it turns out she is the one using Provoke at the start of a pull, and she completely ignores Orb mechanics. They even asked me at one time why I died so fast when I was tanking the boss, as a WHM. Seriously?
Well, long story short, we eventually get the WAR to finally tank swap with the PLD at one point. We end up wiping to final Orbs though. Then the sh*t hits the fan, so to speak. The NIN is getting fed up with the WAR, as am I, and asks them "should I drop DPS during tank swap? I'm above you in enmity every time", which I reply "everyone is." No lie. The WAR would drop to about 4-6th in the list when they swapped. WAR eventually complained we were all bad, which we basically all laughed at. We kicked her. I know, you need to tank swap but... Well.
So I insist we can try with one tank (we have like 20 minutes left at this point), I explained it would be hell but we could try to push through it. I saved my SC for Rezzing the tank when he would die to tank buster mechanic, and I tried my best to keep everyone alive. I know I did good job too. My brothers are MCH and BRD so I asked them for MP heals when I needed it, and they were very good at giving it to me. The PLD was a REALLY good tank too. He knew what he was doing, and would pull hate as fast as he could when he died. But... weakness is a bitch, and when you seemingly only have one healer...
That's another thing. The SCH was really slow (they blamed their internet, which is fine) and they pretty much only cast Succor, as far as I could tell. And when they had the MP, they never rezzed anyone. I always had to do that. They also had issues with dodging Ifrit eruptions, and I had to rezz them about twice as many times as everyone else, combined (this includes the tank). No lie. If I even took my eye off the tank to heal someone else, the tank would end up dying about 1/3rd of the time, because the SCH never used Lustrate or Adlo... Which suuuucked. So I was healing everyone with AoEs, healing the tank with Cures, spot healing others where needed, rezzing anyone who died, and recasting Protect if I had a second. It was intense. Lol I salvaged one fight while my BRD brother tanked the boss. I think like... The PLD, SCH, and two DPS were down. I got them all up some how and kept my brother alive. We wiped shortly after though.
Well... Then we had another BRD.. And she liked to use AoEs on Ultima, for some reason? Adding that with a MCH and a BRD who were healing my MP (when I needed it), our DPS was anything but spectacular. She was also very squishy, which is fine. But when there are three people taking one Orb and you drop to 300 HP? OMG. The NIN was really good though, so no issues there.
All that aside? We could have actually cleared Ultima, no lie. We just needed the Tank LB for the final orbs and we would have been golden (SCH didn't understand orbs, even after we explained them), but the tank(s) were either dead, or the LB was late. We were so close one time, with one tank, but he pulled his LB out too late and we wiped. D:
It was fun, and frustrating (mostly frustrating), and I really wish I could have given comms even though we abandoned (the NIN and PLD were great).
