Thanks! Idk how ppl were able to see the Roe's face on the low rez pic ^^;For those interested, here is a higher-res version http://i53.tinypic.com/wveibs.jpg
Yea I was thinking it would be Viking or Berserker since Warrior hasn't had any kind of fur armor before.
Just that "Thaumaturge" is actually called "Master of Curses" in the Japanese version.I'm guessing it's the other way around:
THM > WHM
CON > BLM
As all class skills will be re-evaluated, our best bet is to go by the names and general concepts of the classes:
Conjurer: One who summons. This is a class heavily focused on elemental power, so BLM seems to be the natural outgrowth.
Thaumaturge: A performer of miracles or magic feats - often associated with healing. FFXIV put a life-death/astral-umbral twist on Thaumaturgery, but people tend to only focus on the death side of it.
Doesn't sound like a WHM to me.
its irrelevant that thm could be whm. These descions arent based on lore, or even much of what is ingame now. The recent changes to conjurer essentially guarantees it will be whm. While debuffs are assscoiated with whm, you will never see a whm without aoe cures and multiple raises.THM = WHite Mage. This summation of previous posts I've made in THM and Con forums.
I hate using a FF11 reference since this is different game, but you look at these two abilities of a FF11 white mage.
Martyr: Sacrifices HP to heal another party member double that amount.
Using HP to heal? The THM does nothing like that, right? (can you say sacrifice spell?)
Next, lets look at the FF11 White Mage offensive spells.
Dia
Paralyze
Banish
Slow
Silence
Banishga
Diaga
Banish II
Dia II
Banishga II
Flash
Repose
Holy
Banish III
Do any of these spell look familiar for THM?
THM worship the twin gods of Nald'Thal.
http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Nald%27thal
Nald'thal is the overseer of transactions and the underworld, and god of commerce. He commands the element of Fire and is associated with the tenth moon of the Eorzean calendar. Nald'thal is the single manifestation of the deific twins Nald and Thal. He is most often depicted as a discerning merchant holding a balance.
Nald'thal the Traders is one of the Twelve. He is the patron deity of Ul'dah where two great halls, devoted to his two aspects, can be found in the eastern and western sections of the city.
Nald rules over the world of the living, and Thal keeps the realm of the dead.
The Thaumaturge, BASE CLASS, are the priests of DEATH. They are based in the Arrzaneth Ossuary, their temple of death and worship of Thal, in Ul'dal.
The Milvaneth Sacrarium is on the other side of Ul'dah. This is the temple of life and the worship of Nald.
The THM lore is death and spilling of blood, but that is only half of it. There is a whole other half of the faith devoted to LIFE. This whole other half of the faith would easily fill why White Mages are THM and also why THM BASE CLASS is the polar opposite to white mage.
I looked at the history of the jobs/classes in previous FF titles. I look for consistent elements to find the most probable outcomes for the jobs and classes. FF has been going on for 23 years and over those 23 years certain elements remain the same. I don't just refer to FFXI.
I've noted that the white mage and other elements change with games. In FF4 the white mage, Rosa, was an archer too. Do I expect SE to make our white mages a job for archers? No, that was one game. In FF3 the white mage is give Aero spells, since the class was given to the characters by the crystal of wind. That is the only time I found that job given a elemental spell. The white mage is consistently given heals, buffs, and holy spells. The Holy DD spell is an iconic spell of the white mage and generally the only class able to cast it. I could beat this dead horse more but I think I have enough drive my point. The white mage has consistently been in FF a holy spellcasting class. I don't see SE changing this for any game. The white mage is an icon of the FF series. SE even have them do appearances in other games to represent SE.
http://www.mariowiki.com/White_Mage <--Note: Holy Shot is the White Mage special dunk
SE is not going change the white mage into conjurer, a druid elementalist, due to this. No more than Nintendo is going to change Mario from a plumber to a carpenter. Is it a subtle reason, yes. But the driving force for this logic is the fact holds true for the black mage.
I will not go over the black mage in detail, this time again, but the same holds true. The black mage has always been an elemental nuker. Have the other spells changed over time? Yes, but the elemental nuke have always been there in every FF that black mages are there.
I'm not trying to focus of the spell elements of the classes, but the defining elements of the jobs and classes themselves.
Do you your own google research, see what you find.
You are right that arguments could be made for thm to be whm, but arguments could be made for the opposite as well. The reality is, based on their recent changes to con, it is basically guaranteed to be a whm. that is more telling than all the lore, and whatever else.
They took aoe cures from one class, and gave the other the aoe cures and multiple tiers of raise. Im sorry, but they have basically decided. Logic is no longer relevant.
The roegadyn armour reminds me a sort of mix between the hun and the viking outfits, i like it. Hope it's a Viking or a Berserker class (Warrior is too bland).
Well met, physic.having the roles seperate from the classes would have been good. But its highly unlikely they will deviate that far from their plans. I really have no problem with fan service, it just seems like they will end up doing their fans a diservice by having watered down versions of the classes they may have loved. Con isnt whm enough for someone who really loves being a healer, they only have a few healing/protection skills. Thm is really far from what people have wanted for blm. And brd is only tangently connected to what people wanted from a bow user, which is closer to a ranger/hunter. And most bard lovers want to be a lot more closely associated with music and support, rather than the DD heavy archer class.
So really its like they are fake serving the fans.
That said i can imagine a good fun ranged bow using bard class, and see how thm could focus into a death/shadow magic based DD class. but these things arent that well connected with the ideas behind most of the iconic jobs whose names they are using.
Also when they specialize, you will really start to notice the lack of jobs. Just feels like even if this was their job plan, one to one, or even tree, they should have saved some roles for classes that really represent said job.
You always say everything so perfectly.
I think that Viion guy has a screenshot of modding it in game.Image is too low-resolution for me to really get a good look at the details. I want to see which one is the Lancer...
Edit: After much squinting, it looks like the Evil Armor is indeed going to the Lancer. YAY! *spazcat*
P.S. The Black Mage Artifact Armor has already been "leaked" in 3D form - I was the one who broke the news, but Square Enix's moderators had the thread removed shortly after 1.18 went live, for ToS reasons. The image should still be floating around on the 'net at FFXIV fansites.

Can a person only have one job? If I level my CON/THM to 50 can i do either BLM or WHM whenever I want?
If you can have only one job, have they talked about respecs?
